The B.P.R.D. (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) is an organization in the comic books series Hellboy and B.P.R.D.

The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defence was founded by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm as a response to occult threats discovered during operations against Nazi forces in 1945.
Biography[]
Towards the end of the end of the Second World War the allies began to take notice of a faction within the Nazi party studying and using occult means to try to conquer the Earth. In 1944 Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, an expert in the occult, founded the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense for the American government (initially with strong ties to the United States Air Force) in the hopes of quashing any paranormal threat the Axis might utilize. During this time, proof of the paranormal had been proven a reality, even with Bruttenholm adopting a baby demon he would name Hellboy
