Biography

Frederick Dukes early life and family is mostly unknown.  At puberty, his mutant power activated and he became morbidly obese, with fat that seemed impenetrable.  Unfortunately for him, this made him an outcast from society, causing him to become bitter towards humans.  To make ends meet, he ended up joining a carnival as a freak.

Blob eventually gained the attention of Professor X, a powerful psychic mutant, and had his team of young mutants, the X-Men, try to recruit him in the hopes that he would be a new member.  He initially accepted the invitation to their mansion but feeling he didn't need them, he rejected the X-Men. Professor X, fearing that the Blob might attempt to reveal the secret of the X-Men tried to erase his memory but before he could, the Blob escaped.  Knowing that he was a danger to the X-Men, Blob returned to the carnival, took it over and plotted to strike at the X-Men before they could strike him.  He attacked Xavier's Mansion in the hopes of stealing his advanced technology but was defeated by the X-Men and he and his carnival's memories of recent events were erased.

Later, Professor X's longtime foe Magneto convinced the Blob to join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and after Dukes regained his memory following a blow to the head, he happily joined him.  However, during a fray with the X-Men, Magneto's attacked the team while Blob was fighting among them and though he wasn't seriously hurt, he felt betrayed and returned to his carnival home.
