Superman is largely considered the first "superhero" (preceded by "pulp heroes", including "mystery men", avengers with secret identities) and his initial tales often had overtly comedic aspects, marked by criminal reactions to the heroes shocking strength and durability and Superman's initial playful attitude towards his duties.
