Congorilla is a superhero in the DC Universe who was an explorer who's mind was place in a gorilla's body.

Origin[edit | edit source]

A gamekeeper in the Congo, William Glenmorgan had made friends with a local witchdoctor.  The witchdoctor, on his deathbed, gave "Congo Bill" a magic ring that he claimed could put his mind in the body of a golden gorilla.  Though skeptical at first, Bill learned in a time of crisis that it was true and began to fight evil as the Congorilla.

Biography[edit | edit source]

William Glenmorgan was born in the United Kingdom the son of a Scottish gamekeeper (no other information of his parents is known) and was born in 1898.  For a time, he was a member of the IRA and was a soldier at the Battle of Somme and the Battle of Flanders Field during the first World War. Eventually, he became a spy in Austria, Belgium and then went onto working with the Worldwide Insurance Agency, protecting policies and saving the company from insurance fraud.

Around the same time, he became an explorer and an adventurer, making his home somewhere in Africa (though possibly the Congo, due to his nickname of Congo Bill).  As a self-proclaimed protector of his new home, William became friends with the Witch Doctor Chief Kawolo. After Kawolo fell and found himself dying, he summoned Bill to his deathbed and bequeathed to him a ring. Kawolo explained the ring was magic, capable to transferring his mind into the legendary golden gorilla should he rub it. Bill accepted the ring but did not believe the story about its magical properties.
