DC Main Continuity Timeline

This timeline page is made with the purpose to catalog the main continuity timeline of the DC Universe. This page will focus only on the main timeline, and not the DCAU, other DC adaptations or Extended Universe Timelines, and no Elseworld stories or Vertigo stories will be included either due to them taking place in different universes. This timeline may be inaccurate, meaning that anyone may add anything they want, as long as it is officially DC, and part of the official DC Universe main timeline. Plus, make sure the content fits within the age that the comic was published in.

Dawn of Time

In the beginning, there was nothing but The Source, from which sprung forth an explosion of incalculable energies that heralded the Dawn of Time. Manipulating this newborn multiverse was Perpetua, who entrusted its three realms of matter, anti-matter and dark matter to her sons. As the cosmos slowly expanded and gave rise to stars and planets, the hand of Destiny, first of The Endless, recorded all that transpired in his book.
Rallying a third of the Angels to his side, Lucifer the Morningstar began a War in Heaven against his brother, the Archangel Michael, who defeated Lucifer's forces and cast them down into Hell, where they were reborn as demons. One of the fallen angels begged forgiveness and was transformed by Michael into the Wrath of God, the instrument of divine vengeance. Another angel, who refused to fight for either side, was cast out by Heaven and Hell, condemned to walk Earth alone for the rest of eternity, a stranger to all.
Elsewhere, while the War in Heaven was raging, two warring factions of immortals, The Lords of Order and Chaos, began their cosmic struggle for dominance.

5,000,000,000 years ago

On the densely populated planet of Maltus, a blue-skinned race eventually achieved immortality and abandoned their birth-world to live on the planet Oa, an ancient world rumored to be the center of the universe. There, one of their greatest scientists, Krona, attempted to unlock the secrets of the beginnings of all existence. Instead, his experiment unleashed an enigmatic Earthman from another universe named Volthoom, who taught the Oans to harness the power of the Emotional Spectrum. Created by all sentient life, this energy was personified by the green willpower of Ion, the yellow fear of Parallax, the red rage of The Butcher, the blue hope of Adara, the orange greed of Ophidian, the indigo compassion of Proselyte and the violet love of The Predator.
However, Volthoom’s insanity wreaked chaos, so the Oans took it upon themselves to become the Guardians of the Universe. After sealing the wild chaotic magic of the universe within the Starheart, the Oans constructed an android army known as The Manhunters to establish order across the cosmos. When their robotic servants malfunctioned and massacred virtually all of Space Sector 666, the Guardians decommissioned The Manhunters, although many fled to operate from the shadows on other worlds to fulfill their oath "No Man Escapes The Manhunters!" Believing that sentient life would make for a more effective police force, the Guardians formed the Green Lantern Corps, empowered with rings fueled by a Central Power Battery on Oa that channeled the green light of will from all life in the cosmos. The Guardians also imprisoned the fear parasite, Parallax, within the Central Power Battery, creating a weakness to yellow within all their power rings. As millennia past, the true nature of the Yellow Impurity was kept secret by the Guardians in order to prevent any from unleashing Parallax upon the cosmos once again.
There came a time when the Old Gods died. The brave died with the cunning. The noble perished, locked in battle with unleashed evil. It was the last day for them. An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust. From the blinding death-flash of their destruction, two molten bodies began to form. One world, suffused with the cunning and evil of these primordial beings, became Apokolips, forever spinning in the shadow of New Genesis, bathed in the bravery and nobility of their forerunners.
1,000,000 B.C. - Tor, a lone prehistoric warrior, is born. He gets his pet gibbon caden, and the events of 1,000,000 Years Ago!/3-D Comics/Tor (1954), Alter Ego #10, Tor #1, and Tor (1974-1975) take place.
998,050 B.C. - According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #49, on Earth-Two, a super-advanced human civilization is destroyed by the arrival of the Fire People, which steal its radium element and release a huge atomic explosion. Just before his death, a scientist from that civilization leaves a message to future generations through uranivision, a process unknown to current science that uses radiation, warning that the Fire People should return every 1 million years.
500,000 B.C. - According to More Fun Comics Vol. 1 #67, The Lord of Order, later known on Earth as Nabu the Wise, is born on the planet Cilia.

50,000 years ago

50,000 B.C. - According to More Fun Comics Vol. 1 #65, on Earth-Two, the dynasty of the underwater city of Nyarl-Amen, a race of fish-men, ruled the world.
On the seemingly insignificant planet Earth, two new species came to prominence, the cave-dwelling Homo Sapiens and the Homo Magi, whose natural gifts to manipulate magic allowed them to establish the twelve kingdoms of Atlantis.
48,000 B.C. - On Earth-Two, Vandar Adg (Vandal Savage), a caveman and leader of the Blood Tribe is born.
47,060 B.C. - On Earth-Two, when Vandal Savage was 40 years old, a mysterious meteor crashed to the ground, bathing him in radiation, and granting him incredible intellect and immortality. An observer from the Bear Tribe would later approach that same meteorite and become Savage's eternal nemesis, the Immortal Man, possessing the power to resurrect as a new persona every time he is killed.
Although the powerful mage Arion, Lord of Atlantis fought valiantly, he was unable to prevent the destruction of most of Atlantis and its majestic capital, the City of the Golden Gate. The survivors of this cataclysm sought refuge in the sole remaining kingdom of Atlantis, Poseidonis. However, they too were swallowed by the oceans when a meteorite struck, forcing them to adapt to life beneath the seas. All this and more was recorded by their noble king, Orin, and his descendants in their history; The Atlantis Chronicles.
9,638 B.C. - According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #53, Atlantis is a super-scientific city with all sorts of flying inventions and modern weapons, ruled by Queen Atlantea . As Atlantis under the leadership of Atlantea prepares to conquer all the nations of the world, Green Lantern arrives for a brief visit just in time to witness Atlantis sinking into the sea and being destroyed in the cataclysm. According to Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #8, when Atlantis sinks, a large part of it survives trapped in an air pocket below the earth's crust under the Atlantic Ocean. This Atlantis eventually becomes the home of a race of great females, where they acted as their rulers and warriors, and weaker and smaller men.
While Atlantis began to sink, two cavemen had been granted immortality by a meteor that fell from the sky while the rest of Mankind remained savages. Foremost amongst humanity's primitives was young Anthro the first boy who defended the Bear Clan from raids by marauding cavemen. The other-worldly gods of the Fourth World experimented upon early man to create Aurakles, Earth's first superhero. The inhabitants of the neighboring planet Mars also sought to manipulate the genetic code of humanity. As a result, what might have become the next race of superhuman gods would remain unremarkable for the time being. Untold years later, a descendant of Anthro, Kong the Untamed, championed his people when dinosaurs, driven to the brink of extinction millions of years earlier, returned from hidden depths within the Earth to terrorize his clan.

5,000 years ago

Following the sinking of Atlantis, the survivors had spread throughout the world and helped their primitive human cousins establish new civilizations in Skartaris, Mesopotamia, and Egypt, where the immortal Lord of Order, Nabu the Wise, and the ancient wizard Shazam made their home. When the time came to choose a successor, Shazam empowered the mighty Teth-Adam of Kandaq as his champion. Nabu and Teth-Adam would come to serve the Pharaoh Khufu and his queen Chay-Ara, whose discovery of an alien starship from the planet Thanagar bonded their souls forever to the Nth Metal found within. Khufu & Chay-Ara were soon murdered by their high priest, Hath-Set, and cursed to be reborn again and again throughout history. Meanwhile, Teth-Adam had become corrupted by his power and was exiled to another dimension by Shazam.
3709 B.C. - In DC Comics Presents Vol. 1 #37, Rip Hunter and the Time Masters travel to New Mexico in the 38th Century BC in order to prevent an old college colleague from destroying the Time Sphere.
2,700 B.C. - According to The Flash Vol. 1 #137, Vandal Savage becomes a king in ancient Sumer.
2,030 B.C. - According to 1st Issue Special Vol. 1 #9, the Egyptian deity Anubis rewarded his most devoted follower, the mad priest Khalis, with the Amulet of Anubis, holding part of the god's own power. In the following years, Khalis used the Amulet to take mental control of a legion of Nubian slaves and made them build "the mightiest of pyramids" to honor Anubis. When Nabu the Wise, a Lord of Order in human form who served various Egyptian Pharaohs, discovered the actions of Khalis, he freed the slaves from the priest's spell and let them have their revenge on Khalis. As Khalis was buried, Nabu took the Amulet as his own.
Following their war with The Titans, the victorious Zeus took dominion over the Heavens, his brother Poseidon ruled the Seas and dark Hades reigned over the Underworld. In time, the people of Greece and Rome began to worship these Gods of Olympus, whose meddling in the affairs of mankind would continue for centuries.
To counter the destructive influence of Ares, the God of War, upon mankind, the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, the Goddess of the Earth, Demeter, the Goddess of the Hunt, Artemis, and the God of Healing, Hermes, helped create the Amazons to spread the teachings of peace and understanding to humanity. However, cursed with madness by jealous Hera and manipulated by the God of War, the mighty Herakles tricked the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta, and enslaved her sisters to steal the magic girdle created by Hephaestus. Having failed in their mission of peace and tainted by the savage violence they unleashed during their escape from bondage, Hippolyta led half of the Amazons to the hidden island of Themyscira, forsaking Man’s World, while her sister Antiope and her Amazons remained behind to take their vengeance upon the world of man.
1,200 B.C. - Originally, thousands of years ago, on Earth-Two, Amazons lived on an island called Amazonia. After being momentarily enslaved by Hercules, they were tired of the evil ways of manhood in ancient Greece and migrated to Paradise Island where they did not age and could practice a peaceful way of life and cultivate their minds. As a way of reminding them never to trust a man again, Aphrodite condemned them to wear bracelets. With the island blessed by the gods of Olympus, no man is physically allowed to step on it. During this same year, the Earth-Two Speedy, stranded in this age after fighting Nebula Man, is turned into a centaur by Circe, and is finally rescued by Red Tornado, Zatanna and Flash.
1,190 B.C. - According to Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #37, on Earth-Two, the Amazons banish the sorceress Circe to the planet Sorca.
350 B.C. - According to Leading Comics Vol. 1 #3, on Earth-Two, Alexander the Great is brought from this age to 1942 by Dr. Doome and faces the Seven Soldiers of Victory.
331 B.C. - On Earth-Two, Per Degaton, a villain of the Justice Society, time-travels to this point of time and prevents the victory of Alexander the Great at the Battle of Arbela, preventing Greek culture from inspiring the known inventions of our time. The heroes return in time and stop the villain, repairing the timeline, and receive a shield from Alexander.
300 B.C. - On Earth-Two, after 3,000 years fighting against the forces of Chaos on Earth, Nabu's human form was worn. In an attempt to heal his psychic wounds, the Lord of the Order puts himself in suspended animation for more than 2,000 years in an Egyptian-style pyramid built in the Valley of Ur in Chaldea.
On Earth-Two, the Starheart falls in ancient China. The meteor is carved in the shape of a lantern by Chang, a Chinese craftsman and wizard. However, the people of the village he lived in deemed what he was doing with the meteor as sacrilage, so they went to kill him. However, the Starheart let out a blast of green flame, enacting the first of the three prophesies a voice within the Starheart says will happen, which is to bring death. In this case, the deaths of the villagers. Chang's grandson would get posession of this lantern, and later gave it to Kublai Khan, who gifted it to Marco Polo.
33 - According to Weird War Tales Vol. 1 #50, on Earth-Two, the Roman centurion Longinus uses his spear to pierce the side of Jesus when he is hanging on the cross. In the coming years, this weapon becomes known as the Spear of Destiny.
323 - According to JSA Classified Vol. 1 #10, in Chrysopolis, Vandal Savage assumed the identity of Emperor Licinius and rallied the soldiers of the Eastern Empire together. He marched on the Roman Emperor Constantine, but lost the war within a year. Savage abandoned his Licinius identity, allowing another man to be executed in his place.
August 24th, 410 - According to The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive Vol. 1 #10, Rome was sacked by the Visigoths. Zoom enjoyed traveling to this moment in history to watch. It was here that he was found by Iris Allen and hired to attack her grandson, Bart.
The Golden Gladiator fought heroically in the Coliseum before the fall of the Roman Empire.
In the age of Camelot, The Silent Knight championed the people of his kingdom.
On Earth-Two, Shining Knight becomes trapped in ice when fighting a ogre.
According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #65, the JSA travels to Camelot from February 1977 and faces Vandal Savage, who disguises himself briefly as King Arthur.
850 - According to The Atom Vol. 1 #3, The Atom arrived in the Middle East via the Time Pool where, dazed from the experience, he decided to take a nap in a nearby lamp. By twist of fate, the Atom ended up starting the myth of Aladdin's lamp, when a young boy named Hassan had his heirloom lamp stolen by Abdul the Thief. As "Al Atom", the Atom helped the boy recover the lamp and also helped the boy uncover a long-lost treasure before leaving. As a token of gratitude, the young boy gave Atom a coin, which he brought back with him to his own time.
948 - According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #39, the first recorded time when Fairyland and Earth dimensions coincided, allowing passage between these worlds for 24 hours. It inspired well-known fairy tales.
964 - According to The Brave and the Bold Vol. 1 #1, Captain Olaf discovered a young lad floating on a log at sea who has no memory of his true name or identity. Sardluk, watching them from afar, recognized the lad and reported to Baron Thorvald who ordered his men to kill the boy. The boy fended off the soldiers with a sword, with which he discovered he was proficient. Captain Olaf's daughter Gunnda was so impressed with the boy's bravery that she named him Jon the Viking Prince, after a famed Viking hero.
During the 10th Century, The Viking Prince sailed across the unknown seas in search of high adventure.
According to Justice League Endless Winter Vol. 1 #1, the Wizard Mamaragan agreed to release his long-imprisoned former champion Black Adam on the request of the heroes Hippolyta, the Viking Prince and Swamp Thing. The four banded together to fight the Frost King, who was trying to take over the world.
980 - According to Time Masters Vol. 1 #5, Tony of the Time Masters, with Viking Prince's help, tries to get the Holy Grail from the Illuminati.
990 - According to the Atlas of the DC Universe, on the planet Rann, the Great War happened between the city-states of Ranagar and Zared.
In the lands across the oceans that would become known as America, Super-Chief gained powers from a meteorite and became the greatest hero of his people. Years later, Vikings exploring America rescued Arak, Son of Thunder and brought him back to Europe, where he became a swashbuckling adventurer.
On Earth-Two, Robin Hood is visited by The Flash, who was time-traveling. On another occasion, he is visited by Batman and Robin.
According to Justice League of America Vol. 1 #101, shifted in time after facing Nebula Man, Earth-Two Green Arrow poses as Robin Hood, before he is rescued by Hawkman, Dr. Midnite and Wonder Woman.
1199 - According to Demon Vol. 3 #0, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Etrigan murdered a cardinal and his actions allowed him to rise in the infernal ranks of Hell.
A tribal warrior named Strong Bow journeyed south where he encountered the Aztec Empire.
On Earth-Two, Genghis Khan, in the early 1160s and the year 1237, encounters Flash who travels in time, who saves his life and is rewarded with his sword.
According to Leading Comics Vol. 1 #3, Genghis Khan is brought from this time to 1942 by Dr. Doome and faces the Seven Soldiers of Victory.
According to Justice League of America Vol. 1 #101, scattered in time after battling Nebula Man, Shining Knight loses his memory and serves under Genghis Khan for some time before he is rescued by Sandman, Superman and Metamorpho.
According to All-American Comics Vol. 1 #72, on Earth-Two, Roger Bacon receives the help of a time-travelling Green Lantern to build the first cannon.
1255 - According to Detective Comics Vol. 1 #220, Roger Bacon travels to June, 1955 to discern whether the future will be good or bad.
1389 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #13, English peasant Robert "Hob" Gadling is granted immortality by Death.
1463 - According to Detective Comics Vol. 1 #319, through a weird hole in space and time, Martian Manhunter ends up in the Auvergne region of France, where he helps Prince Charles defeat the Black Duke.
According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #42, on Earth-Two, a scholar named Galio finds the Four Wonders of Alchemy: the Philosopher's Stone, the Elixir of Youth, the universal solvent, and the secret of perpetual motion.
According to Justice League of America Vol. 1 #100, on Earth-Two, in Mexico, after being dispersed in time by Nebula Man, the 20th century hero Crimson Avenger loses his memory and for a few weeks is convinced that he is the Aztec god of the war, Huitzilopochtli. He is healed and rescued by Dr. Fate, Atom and Elongated Man.
1520 - According to the digital copy of Challenge of the Super Sons Vol. 1 #4, the time-displaced Super Sons were captured by Vandal Savage, Felix Faust, and Faust's apprentice Rora. They attempted to use their knowledge of the future to aid in conquest, but the pair escaped back to the 21st Century.
1558 - According to Sensation Comics Vol. 1 #1, on Earth-Two, Jon Valor becomes the Black Pirate.
1566 - According to JLA Vol. 1 #4, Suleiman the Magnificent and Merlin hid an enchanted scimitar with The Book of Eternity to prevent it from being fallen into the hands of Etrigan.
An island boy rises up to become the pirate known throughout the Caribbean as Captain Fear.
1609 - According to The Atom Vol. 1 #9, The Atom traveled through the Time Pool to the Netherlands in the home of Jan Lippershey, where he witnessed the invention of the telescope, as well as sees Harry Hudson's struggles trying to get England to approve a voyage to find a faster route to India. Ultimately the Atom helped Hudson and Lippershey ward off representatives of France who had been trying to force Hudson to work for them.
According to More Fun Comics Vol. 1 #11, on Earth-Two, The Three Musketeers come together.
1656 - According to The Demon Vol. 3 #0, Jason Blood was invited to Hell and rapt the attention of Lucifer.
1659 - According to Superman Vol. 1 #655, Arion the Immortal was living the life of an aristocrat in Paris, France under the name Vicomte Jean-Simon Giscard D'Arion. He awakened from a prophetic dream and spoke the words, "Camelot falls". Disturbed by his vision, Arion used a crystal ball to peer into the future.
1660 - According to The Demon Vol. 3 #0, Etrigan lead the mad pirate William Scumm to Hell, where he was already long overdue.
During the formative years of the United States of America, the frontiersman Tomahawk and his son shared many adventures across the country.
1662 - According to Gotham Academy: Second Semester Vol. 1 #7, Alienor Frych wrote the Book of Gotham detailing the life and death of her friend Amity Arkham who was burnt to death for witchcraft in colonial New Jersey, and containing at least one spell to summon Amity's vengeful ghost.
A boy taken in by natives called Firehair struggled to find his place in the world.
1689 - According to Nightwing Vol. 2 #131, Tituba, likely an African slave, gave birth to her daughter, Violet. Present was John, a Native American and possibly the father, as well as an unnamed African woman who was chanting throughout the birth. The woman's eyes glowed and she claimed the world would soon learn how special she was.
1689 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #13, Hob Gadling met Dream once again, revealing with dismay that he had "hated every second of the last eighty years" after losing his wife, son, and fortune. But he was not ready to die.
1692 - According to Nightwing Vol. 2 #131, Four young girls, seemingly possessed, danced naked around a fire. There were suspicions that the girls were witches but, when Mister Parris confronted one of the girls, Tituba, holding and smiling at 3-year old Violet, claimed to be the witch and that there is "no one else to blame."
1692 - According to Gotham Academy: Second Semester Vol. 1 #5, Alienor Frych died and was buried on what would later become the grounds of Gotham Academy.
1700 - Boodikka is born on the planet Bellatrix.
1718 - According to Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne Vol. 1 #3, Bruce Wayne travels through time to the era of pirate Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch.
1739 - According to The Atom Vol. 1 #6, Jane de la Marie writes a letter about how King George II refuses to release her husband until the criminal highwayman named Tom Palmer (AKA Dick Turpin) is arrested. The letter is acquired in "the present" by Alpheus Hyatt using his Time Pool. Ray Palmer, curious about his ancestor's rogue past, travels through the Time Pool where he secretly helps Jane de la Marie capture Dick Turpin.
On Earth-Two, Keith Everet, the Earl of Strethmere, was shot by a marauding highwaymen as he was on his way to propose to his beloved Deborah Wallace. After his death, the spirits of his ancestors taught him all their secrets and sent him back to Earth to fight for justice.
1753 - According to Detective Comics Vol. 1 #205, Jeremy Coe discovers an immense underground cavern in Gotham Town and uses it as base of operations to fight off Indian invaders. This cavern will later become known as the Batcave.
1770 - According to Time Masters Vol. 1 #4, Dan Hunter travels backwards in time from the 20th century and meets frontier fighter Tomahawk. He becomes a valuable comrade and a member of Tomahawk's Rangers. In that same issue, Tomahawk and Dan save the life of General George Washington from an Illuminati assassination attempt.
1772 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #3, the urchin known as Mad Hettie is born.
1776 - According to Spectre, Vol. 3 #37, After the Founding Fathers sign the Declaration of Independence at Liberty Hall in Philadelphia, some of the men—including Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson—meet in secret. They gather around a table, and the alchemist Taylor Hawke gathers 13 tokens and creates a spiritual embodiment of America. The tokens merge and form a small talisman. The 13 men agree to protect the talisman and the secret of its existence.
1776 - The Revolutionary War for the independence of the United States of America begins.
1776 - On Earth-Two, The Spirit of America is born as the new flag of the United States of America is hoisted over the 13 free states.
1776 - On Earth-Two, Bess Lynn becomes Miss Liberty (ancestor of Liberty Belle).
1776 - According to All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #45, Miss Liberty fights a squad of Hessians while trying to protect the Liberty Bell. Ironically, she is killed when the bell falls on top of her.
1780 - According to Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #86, the 20th century elemental Alec Holland is transported backwards in time to the 18th century where his essence is trapped inside a block of amber. The Indian medicine man Gray Elk discovers him in Echo Valley and studies the elemental's power for more than twenty years.
1789 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #13, Hob Gadling meets Dream and report on his success as a slave-trader. Their meeting is intrude upon by Johanna Constantine, who attempted to capture them and is incapacitated by Dream.
1790 - According to Nightwing Vol. 2 #130, Violet Parris is interrupted during an energy feeding of a girl named Margaret by an armed posse. She is accused of also murdering four men in Worcester and they prepare to hang her. Among the posse is Thomas Larson who, upon seeing her aura as red, intervenes presumably killing one and "convincing" others not to follow. Thomas promises Violet that they'll soon become friends.
1796 - According to The Flash Vol. 1 #137, on Earth-Two, as Marshal Sauvage, Vandal Savage becomes an advisor to Napoleon.
1799 - According to Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #86, Tomahawk and Stovepipe work in Gotham Town as tax collectors. In the same issue, Lord Shilling meets with Jason Blood and agrees to acquire a mystical piece of amber for him. The amber houses the time-displaced essence of the Swamp Thing.
January 1st, 1800 - According to Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #86, Lord Shilling disguises himself as Tomahawk's friend, Stovepipe, and tries to trick Tomahawk into surrendering a mystic piece of amber that he acquired from Jason Blood a year prior. Tomahawk and Shilling fight in a bat cave in Gotham Town and Shilling's arm fuses itself to the amber. The detached arm later becomes known as the Claw of Aelkhünd.
Late 1800 or early 1801 - According to Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #86, Tom Hawk and his Indian wife Moon Fawn give birth to a son named Hawk. Hawk will one day become the pacifist frontiersman known as Hawk, Son of Tomahawk.
Settlers making the journey west came under the protection of Matt Savage, Trail Boss.
The Spanish swordsman known only as Don Caballero became the champion to the poor in Southern California.
May in the 19th Century - Ohiyesa Smith, later known as Pow Wow Smith, is born, though no exact date is given. Ohiyesa is a Sioux Indian, who left his home in Red Deer Valley to learn more about white man's world. His tracking and expert gun skills won him employment as a deputy sheriff, and eventually the job of sheriff of Elkhorn. Ohiyesa took up a deputy named Hank Brown. Once sheriff, Pow Wow spent most of his time in Elkhorn, only rarely returning to Red Deer Valley. For most of his adventures, Pow Wow's girlfriend (and later fiancée) was the Native American maiden Fleetfoot, daughter of Chief Thundercloud. She often aided Pow Wow in his adventures to keep the peace between his two cultures.

19th Century - In All-Star Western Vol. 2 #3, Lazarus Lane, a bank teller in the American Old West, gets struck by lightning, after getting assaulted by a gang of thieves, and falls into a coma. He is revived by a Native American Shaman named Wise Owl, and becomes the vigilante known as El Diablo (Spanish for "the Devil"). According to Jonah Hex Vol. 2 #11 and #24, Lazarus Lane is cursed to be the host of a minor demon that acts as a Spirit of Vengeance. This means that while Lane's body lies in a coma, El Diablo roams the earth. His fate is similar to that of Jill Carlyle, the current incarnation of the Crimson Avenger.
1838 - According to The Flash Vol. 2 #97, Max Mercury is granted superhuman speed by a Blackfoot shaman. He use his powers to protecting the natives and the settlers from one another as Ahwehota, or as he was better known, Windrunner.

1840 - According to Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, in the 1840's Fernando Suarez, a nobleman from Spain, becomes the costumed adventurer 'El Castigo' (Spanish for "The Whip"). He becomes a local legend in Seguro, New Mexico where his whip and costume are kept in a church until 1939 when a descendant Rodrigo "Rodney" Gaynor takes them and also becomes a hero.
1842 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #1, Silas and Abigail Kent give birth to their third son, Joel William.
1844 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #1, Silas and Abigail Kent give birth to their fourth son, Owen.

1847 - According to Bat Lash Vol. 1 #6 & #7 and Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #51, Bat Lash's family is tricked into selling their land to Melvin Midas. While Bat tries to get the Sheriff to help, Midas' men burn down the houses of the Lashes and Gannons killing all the adults. Bat escorts his sister, Melissa, and his then-love interest, Bitsy Gannon, to a nearby convent while Bat tracks down the remainder of Midas' men. Unbeknownst to the rest of the family Bat's younger brother, Tom, is helped to escape by a family friend and grows up as a bounty hunter unable to recall his birth family.
1849 - According to The Atom #12, The Atom arrives in Baltimore, Maryland via the Time Pool and witnesses a gold robbery. He secretly helps a public carrier in clearing his name. The carrier calls in his old friend, writer Edgar Allan Poe, to help solve the mystery. During the course of the adventure, it's learned that the gold was never delivered to the horse carriage: it was an elaborate hoax perpetrated by the shipping company who gave a false trunk instead of the one filled with gold.
1850 - According to Solomon Grundy #3, Jeremiah Newman is born.
1851 - According to Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #120, Aleister Huston loses his family fortune and his wife Alicia and he are forced to abandon their home and settle in Sheffield. Alicia begins working in a textile mill. Her husband dies shortly after the birth of their second child. A fire burns down the row home where Alicia is staying. Alicia tries to rescue her children, but she catches fire and falls into the river. She emerges as the new plant elemental known as Lady Jane and becomes a member of the Parliament of Trees.
1851 - In Jonah Hex #8 (and Jonah Hex #14 in the New Earth Universe) at the age of 13, after being raised by his alcoholic father, Woodson Hex, and going through regular physical abuse, Jonah Hex was sold into slavery with an Apache tribe.
1853 - Jonah Hex was worked constantly by the tribe of Apaches he was a slave to until the day when he saved the chief from a puma attack, making him an honorary member of the tribe. The chief took Jonah in as his own son, but this made his adopted brother, Noh-Tante, jealous. Noh-Tante also shared Jonah's affections for a young tribe girl named White Fawn.
April 3rd-August 10th, 1854 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #1, Silas, Nate and Jeb Kent help Harriet Tubman move freed slaves north into Canada. 21 days later, Silas Kent is invited to join the Emigrant Aid Society at the behest of Daniel Anthony. He sells his print-shop to neighbor David Bowes and prepares to leave for Kansas with his sons Nate and Jeb. 84 days later, the Kents take a steamer from Boston towards Missouri. 11 days later, the Kents arrive in Kansas City, Missouri where they encounter pro-slavery activist Luther Reid for the first time. 7 days later, the Kents befriend Charles L. Robinson, an abolitionist who helps them along their journey down the Santa Fe trail. 6 days later, the Kents reach the territory of Lawrence, Kansas and begin building a new home for themselves.
November 1st, 1854 - During their manhood rite when he was at the age of 16, Noh-Tante betrayed Jonah and left him for dead with the tribe's enemies, the Kiowa. He was rescued by a Cavalry patrol, though he was shot in the gut when he tried to stop the slaughter. Left for dead for a second time, an old trapper in the woods nursed him back to health. Returning to his tribe's camp site, he found that they had broken camp and left. As Jonah grew into adulthood, he joined the United States Army as a cavalry scout.
November 29th, 1854 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #1, The people of Lawrence, Kanas elect their territorial representative to congress. Missourian Luther Reid brings a bunch of brigands over from Missouri to stuff the ballots in favor of a pro-slavery representative.
March 1st-November 11th, 1855 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #1, Silas Kent meets political activist John Henry Lane, but gets shot in the back and killed 8 months and 10 days later after returning to his print shop from an evening at the territorial legislature. His sons, Nate and Jeb, believe that their rival Luther Reid is responsible for their father's death.
December 12th, 1855 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #2, a day and a month after Silas Kent's death, Luther Reid and his pro-slavery Missourians prepare to lay siege to Lawrence, Kansas. The Kent brothers are ready to defend themselves should the need arise.
March 7th-April, 1856 - According to The Kents Vol. 1 #2, Abigail Kent passes away. Her son Nate travels to Boston to collect her remains so that she can be laid to rest next to her husband, Silas. 27 days later, Nathaniel Kent meets Wild Bill Hickok. Wild Bill helps Nate to sneak past a group of Missouri border ruffians. 7 days later, Nathaniel Kent is asked to join the Free State legislature in Topeka. That same month of April, Nathaniel Kent makes a case to President Franklin Pierce to admit Kansas into the union as a Free State. Pierce buckles under political pressure and refuses to support Kent's initiative. Kent takes his case to senator Charles Sumner.
February 23-24, 1857 - In Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #49, Bat Lash wins the deed to a New Orleans brothel during a supposedly fixed card game on a Mississippi River paddleboat. A woman named Lavender takes the deed and pushes Bat overboard. He walks to New Orleans. The next day, in Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #51 & #52, the first Mardi Gras parade was held in New Orleans by the Krewe of Comus. They began the tradition of presenting a parade with floats and following it with a ball for the krewe and their guests. Bat Lash finds Lavender in order to reclaim his deed and learns the brothel contains hidden confederate gold. During a confrontation, the brothel burns down, molten gold is discovered and the brothel is barricaded by the law.
September, 1859 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #31, Joshua Norton, a failed San Francisco businessman, is inspired by Dream to declare himself Emperor Norton I of the United States.
1861 - By 1861, the country was radically divided on the issues of slavery. When war erupted between the northern and southern states, Jonah shifted his loyalties to the newly formed Confederate States Army and earned a commission as a lieutenant in the 4th US Cavalry. During this time, Jonah met a fellow soldier named Jeb Turnbull, and the two became close friends. However, as time went on, Jonah found himself torn between his loyalty to the South, and his feelings towards the treatment of slaves.
October, 1861 - According to Teen Titans Annual Vol. 2 #1, Caleb Driscoll leads a group of 400 settlers across the Pacific Northwest into Canada. The traveling is difficult and the settlers are encumbered by poor weather
December, 1861 - Jonah realized that he could no longer support a system that elected to hold his fellow man in bondage; however he had no intention of betraying his comrades by cooperating with the Union. Therefore, he felt that the best option was to surrender and wait out the war. In Jonah Hex #36, Jonah abandoned his post and went to the Union camp at Fort Charlotte, sneaking into the camp's captain's quarters to surrender directly. The captain pressured Hex to reveal the location of his Confederate unit, but Jonah refused. However, an orderly examined the samples of clay from the iron shoes on Hex's horse and successfully determined where the Confederate soldiers were stationed. The Union soldiers tracked the enemy back to their camp and took them by surprise. As the Confederate soldiers were arrested, the Union captain, smarting from the fact that Hex was able to penetrate the fort's security, publicly thanked Jonah for his assistance, marking him as a traitor in the eyes of his former unit. Hex responded by brutally punching him and was sentenced to solitary confinement. However, Jonah found a shaft beneath his cell and used it to access the compound where Jeb Turnbull and the other prisoners were being held and aided them in their escape, but the fort's soldiers were prepared for them. Unbeknownst to Hex, however, the captain deliberately had the "escape tunnel" dug. The fort didn't have enough food to support the troops, let alone the prisoners, so he had manipulated Hex into staging a breakout so that he could legitimately claim that the prisoners were shot while trying to escape.
January, 1862 - According to Teen Titans Annual Vol. 2 #1, the settlers from the Driscoll expedition are snowed in and forced to set up a camp in Northern Canada. Completely isolated from civilization, they slowly begin to starve.
January, 1862 - In Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #36, the infamous Fort Charlotte massacre takes place, leading to Jonah Hex egregiously being branded a traitor.
April, 1862 - According to Teen Titans Annual Vol. 2 #1, the starving members of the Driscoll expedition turn to cannibalism. Their first victim is Caleb Driscoll. One of them is a witch named Polly who casts a spell that grants the survivors prolonged longevity so long as they continue to eat human flesh. In that same issue, the Driscoll settlement is incorporated and becomes known as Lost Junction. The cannibal settlers live in secret for more than a hundred years.
September, 1862 - President Abraham Lincoln announced his Emancipation Proclamation – a proposed bill that would outlaw slavery in all slave-holding states.
1863 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Morris Burgess Brocklesby is born. (Though some sources suggest Morris was born in 1873)
May 2nd, 1863 - In Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #37, Confederate cavalry soldier Jonah Hex mistakes General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson for an enemy soldier and shoots him. Jackson dies from his injuries eight days later.
September, 1864 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #31, Joshua Norton proclaims Mark Twain as the official story teller to the United States of America for the duration of his moral lifetime.
1865 - According to Secret Origins Vol. 2 #1, on Earth-Two, Mary Clark is born.
1866 - In Jonah Hex Vol. #8, Jonah returned to his village but found that Noh-Tante had since married White Fawn. He declared Noh-Tante's betrayal to the chief, but the accusations were denied and it was decided that they would deliberate through a trial by combat. However, Noh-Tante sabotaged Jonah's tomahawk, forcing him to cheat and end the fight with his knife. For breaking the rules and killing his son, the chief declared that Jonah would be branded with the mark of the demon and exiled under the death penalty. Years later, when he returned again to rescue a kidnapped white woman, he was captured and White Fawn was shot dead by the chief for trying to help him escape. Jonah killed his adopted father in return, and gunned down half the tribe who went after him with the help of Henri' d'Aubergnon. Soon, in Secret Origins Vol. 2 #21, Jonah became a bounty hunter after murdering his first criminal, Lucas "Mad Dog" McGill. He gunned down McGill outside a saloon when he saw him beating on his wife. In his inebriated state, Hex believed him to be his father, Woodson, abusing his mother, Virginia. The local deputy insisted that, even drunk, it was the fastest draw he ever saw and gave him the massive bounty on McGill's head. Hex accepted the money, and spread it out into the streets as he rode out of town. In Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #30, he got his first bounty, and it was on an old army buddy named Eddie Cantwell. In Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #31, the man-hunter, Arbee Stoneham stole Hex's reward by murdering Cantwell and then humiliated him by taking his guns.
1866 - On Earth-Two, Arthur Gordon Pym becomes Captain Nemo.
1867 - In Solomon Grundy Vol. 1 #1, young Cyrus Gold witnesses the murder of his unscrupulous father at the hands of a rival mobster. His body is tossed into Gotham Harbor.
1867 - In The Demon Vol. 3 #0, seven Texas Rangers tracked down Jason Blood for the massacre of prisoners after the Battle of Gettysburg. Jason killed his trackers with a pistol given by Etrigan.
1868 - In Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #85, Black Bison and his cult fight against the forces of Santa Ana, and pushes his army back into the Rio Grande.
1868 - According to Secret Origins Vol. 2 #1, on Earth-Two, John Kent is born.
1870 - In Solomon Grundy Vol. 1 #3, Cyrus Gold murders Jeremiah Newman in order to get close to Newman's widow, Pearl.

1870 - In Seven Soldiers: Frankenstein Vol. 1 #1, Frankenstein's monster battled Melmoth's Circus of Maggots and beheaded their master on a moving train.
October 8, 1871 - According to Detective Comics Vol. 1 #432, Atom arrives in 1871 (via the Time Pool) in Chicago following resident Henry Norton, who had built a time machine to travel to the future (Atom's present) in order to steal newspapers to make himself rich (by betting on horseraces). Instead he learns he is destined to die in the infamous Great Chicago Fire that very day. He inadvertently helps start the fire and perishes. Atom returns all stolen materials to the present.
November, 1872 - In Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #85, Jason Blood and Otto von Hammer hire German mercenaries to raid the home of Lazarus Lane in the hopes of seeing the power of the Claw of Aelkhünd. On the 7th of the month, Wise Owl uses a piece of amber containing the essence of the time-lost Swamp Thing to repel the forces of Jason Blood's mercenaries. He also uses it to trap Black Bison inside of a tree. He captures Johnny Thunder and tries to manipulate him into killing his nephew who is in possession of the Claw of Aelkhünd, the only thing that can free the Swamp Thing. Super-Chief, Madame .44, Bat Lash and Firehair join forces with Jonah Hex and El Diablo and use the Claw to defeat Wise Owl and free the Swamp Thing. After Wize Owl's defeat, El Diablo vanish forever. Some time later, Hawk sells the Claw of Aelkhünd to Otto von Hammer, where it will eventually be passed down to his son, Hans von Hammer. Afterwards, Hawk, Son of Tomahawk begins writing his memoirs. The book includes a photograph of his frontier friends including Swamp Thing.
1874 - In Time Masters Vol. 1 #3, Jeff Smith, Time Master, travels from 1990 to 1874 Oaxaca, Mexico to investigate the Illuminati. Jeff attempts to kill Illuminati member Porfiro Diaz but fails and is himself shot by Jonah Hex before escaping back to 1990.
1874 - Eight years after being humiliated, in Jonah Hex Vol. 1 #32, Jonah Hex and Arbee Stoneham met again while Hex was bringing down the James Crowley Gang, and he intended to take revenge on Stoneham, but found him wheelchair-ridden. So the two men went out for a drink instead.
1875 - In Solomon Grundy Vol. 1 #2, Cyrus Gold murders a man named Dugan in Dugan's Alley on the South Side of Gotham City.
Weird Western Tales - In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #12, Jonah received a wolf named Iron Jaws when he tried to rescue a peaceful Pawnee tribe from their local town, and failed to save the girl who previously owned him. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #13, Jonah's former mentor, Windy Taylor, calls him and asks him to help find his outlaw son, Tod Taylor. However, Tod shoots down his father and Hex avenges the man who taught him everything he knew. In Weird Western Tales Vol 2 #14, Iron Jaws died after venturing deep into the deserts to rescue Hex from exposure to the sun where two outlaws tied him up. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #16, Hex took down a corrupt sheriff who was scamming his town, and in #17, he took down a corrupt hanging judge. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #18, Hex was a brief bodyguard to a sideshow attraction whose owner he murdered after the man tried to frame him for a heinous crime. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #19, Jonah found an escaped psychopath on the run and got his next bounty on the Gentleman Killer. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #20, Fort Lang was attacked by Indians, and Hex uncovered a railway conspiracy to drive them off their land. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #21, some bandits Jonah was hunting down injured an old lady who had shown him kindness, so he funded a children's hospital to make sure she got the medicine she needed before chasing down and slaughtering the bandits. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #22, while tracking down Blackjack Jorgis, Hex was ambushed by ex-Confederate soldiers sent by Quentin Turnbull. During the gunfight, his mentor Hank Brewster died and his horse, General, was killed by stray bullets. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #23, Hex was briefly hired by the U.S. Secret Service in order to topple an assassination conspiracy against President Ulysses S. Grant. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #24, an injury temporarily blinded Hex, but he took out an entire gang without his sight. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #25, Hex fought corrupt army officials when he took down a greedy landowner who robbing pioneers and letting them die. In Weird Western Tales Vol. 2 #29-#30, Jonah had to face his past and confront Mr. Turnbull, who had a son named Jeb he was friends with during the Civil War, but ended up getting shot during the Fort Charlotte Massacre. As a result, Mr. Turnbull captured Jonah and put him on trial for what he thought was his crime of treason to the Confederacy. However, Jonah managed to escape his fate of death, as per the verdict, and fought Mr. Turnbull. However, Mr. Turnbull tripped and landed on a pitchfork that Jonah tossed aside after using it to disarm him and refusing to kill him with it. However, in Jonah Hex #4, it is revealed that Mr. Turnbull survived his encounter with Hex and revealed that he hired a government agent to have Hex framed for murdering three people (in Jonah Hex #2) and then, as further evidence against him, hired a former actor named The Chameleon to pose as Jonah and frame him for a stage coach robbery. However, Jonah saved himself and a young woman hired to help The Chameleon from burning to death in a house fire that Chameleon started. But the flames destroyed more than just the house, they also ruined Chameleon's face, and caused him to hunt Hex down to get his revenge.
January, 1880 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #31, Joshua Norton dies in San Francisco. Death leads Norton to the afterlife. Joshua Norton's burial is attended by 10,000 people.
1881 - In Solomon Grundy Vol. 1 #3, Cyrus Gold murders his mother and dumps her into Slaughter Swamp. The souls of the dead rise from the swamp and haunt Gold.
1882 - In Legends of the DC Universe Vol. 1 #20, Sheriff Nathaniel Kent of Smallville Kansas appoints Henry Lee Jordan as his deputy. In that same issue and the following issue, Legends of the DC Universe Vol. 1 #21, Henry Lee Jordan leaves Kansas to become a federal Marshal. He travels to Arizona where he befriends the Green Lantern Abin Sur. Abin Sur and Henry Lee Jordan join forces to stop the alien threat of Devlos Ungol.
1886 - In Detective Comics Vol. 1 #572, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. James Watson foils Professor Moriarty's attempted assassination on Queen Victoria.
1888 - According to Hellblazer Vol. 1 #53 and Madame Xanadu Vol. 2 #8, Jack the Ripper murders several women in the Whitechapel area of London. It is believe that the Ripper is possessed by a demon named Calibraxis. After the murder of Mary Kelly, The Ripper encounters the Phantom Stranger and falls into an open sewer to be covered in rats.
1888 - According to The Atom Vol. 1 #17, Atom travels to 1888 via the Time Pool and helps defeat thieves attempting to steal writer Jules Verne's crystal ball mistakenly believing it can foretell the future.
1889 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #13, Hob Gadling meets again with Dream and tries to offer him friendship after coming to a conclusion that Dream is lonely. Dream, however, is offended by Gadling's presumption and storms off.
1890 - According to Secret Society of Super-Villains Vol. 1 #2, the man who would one day develop Earth's first interstellar rocket, Emery Zackro, is born.
1892 - Thaddeus Bodog Sivana, later known as Doctor Sivana, is born.
1892 - On Earth-Two, Cyrus Gold is killed in Slaughter Swamp.
1893 - According to Speed Force Vol. 1 #1, Whip Whirlwind intervenes in child labor at the Schott Toy Factory in New York City threatening the owner, Archimedes Schott, to make improvements. Instead Archimedes decides to burn the factory down and relocate. The children are trapped inside during the fire but one manages to escape and warn Whip Whirlwind who rescues them and captures Schott.
During the waning days of the Old West, Texas Ranger Jack Woods began his adventures in both America and Mexico.
1899 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #3, future mistress of Roderick Burgess and mother of super-villain Doctor Destiny, Ethel Cripps, is born.
1899 - According to Batman Vol. 1 #321, Gotham City Police Headquarters is constructed at the Five Points area on Gotham's lower East Side.
December, 1899 - According to Starman Vol. 2 #74, Opal City's Sheriff Brian Savage kills 57 members of the Tuesday Club before being shot and killed by it's final member, John Melville, who himself is shot and killed by Brian Savage's deputy and successor, Carny O'Dare.
1902 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #1, in either April or May, Stefan Wasserman is born. At 13, he will lie about his age to enlist in the military and serve in World War I.
1904 - Jonah Hex was a bounty hunter until the age of 66 in 1904, in DC Special Series Vol. 1 #16, when he was married to a Native American woman named Tall Bird. His life story was documented by Michael Wheeler. The entertainer L.B. Farnham approached him to become part of a Wild West Revue show in his old age, but Hex angrily refused to let them turn him into a sideshow. Hex's last bounty was a gang run by bank robber George Barrow; he succeeded in wiping them out, but Barrow returned for revenge several days later. While playing cards in a Cheyenne saloon, Hex was murdered with Barrow's double-barreled shotgun while fumbling to put on his spectacles. His death was immediately avenged by the lawman Hank Crawford who gunned down the unarmed Barrow in cold blood. In his dying moments in Jonah Hex Vol. 3 #70, Hex hallucinated and reflected on the life he lived. Tall Bird and Wheeler attempted to give Jonah a proper Native American burial in DC Special Series Vol. 1 #16, but they were robbed at gunpoint by Farnham and an accomplice. Farnham had Wheeler shot and the widow left unconscious to die in a house fire while he stole Hex's corpse for his Wild West Revue. Jonah was taxidermized to be put on display permanently in a gaudy outfit, although the two evil men met their ends through the "accidental" discharge (at point-blank range) of Jonah's hair-trigger guns. Hex's body was thereafter transported from location to location. His final resting place was as a dummy at a Westworld theme park.
January 17, 1906 - On Earth-Two, according to All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #47, Sven and Celestine Nelson give birth to their son, Kent, who would one day become the sorcerer known as Doctor Fate.

April 15th, 1912 - According to Young All-Stars Vol. 1 #16, the RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic. This is caused by the Leviathan, built by Arthur Gordon Pym.

1914 - According to The Brave and the Bold Vol. 1 #54, the last known passenger pigeon dies in the town of Hatton Corners, ultimately bringing the species to extinction.
July 28th, 1914 - Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia after it failed to meet the conditions of an ultimatum following the killing of Archduke Francis Ferdinand by a Serbian assassin. This event leads to the outbreak of war, the First World War.
World War 1 - During the First World War, many brave fighter pilots took to the sky, but one pilot stood out from all the others, he was an honorable German pilot known as Rittmeister Hans von Hammer, also known as "The Hammer of Hell", and more commonly known as Enemy Ace by his enemies above the battlefield. During his time in the Great War, Hans showed honor and chivalry by not shooting down helpless pilots. However, he occasionally found himself at odds with another pilot from France known as The Hangman. Also around this time, Goitrude becomes a military vehicle, and the soldier Doiby Dickles drives "her".
August, 1914 - According to Secret Origins Vol. 2 #45, the Prohaska family moves from Krakow to the slums of Lviv. Janos Prohaska is two-years old at this time.
April 17, 1915 - On Earth-Two, Bruce Wayne is born to Thomas and Martha Wayne.
1916 - Kal-L is born on Krypton to scientist Jor-L and Lara. However, Jor-L, Krypton's leading scientist, discovers that Krypton is about to be destroyed. As a way to keep some memory of Krypton alive, Jor-L and his brother Zor-L, whom he successfully convinces about Krypton's doom, send their respective children, Kal-L and Kara, to Earth, in two distinct ships.
May 30th-June 10th, 1916 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Edmund Hathaway is killed when his destroyer is sunk off of Jutland. His father receives a telegram alerting him to his son's death a week later. A week later, Doctor John Hathaway of the Royal Museum in Scotland, steals the Magdalene Grimoire. He brings it to occultist Roderick Burgess in Wych Cross and begs him to use his skill to resurrect his dead son. Four days later, Roderick Burgess and the Order of Ancient Mysteries conduct a ceremony aimed at capturing Death of the Endless. Instead, they manage to capture Death's sibling Dream, which causes "sleeping sickness" to numerous people including: Ellie Marston, who becomes a victim of the sickness and is later diagnosed with Enchephalitis Lethargica, Daniel Bustamonte in Kingston, Jamaica, who becomes too terrified to sleep and stays up until dawn, 13-year-old soldier, Stefan Wasserman in Verdun, France, enters a state of shellshock and refuses to go to sleep, and Unity Kincaid, who suffers from the sleeping sickness and lapses into a near coma-like state.
June 10, 1916 - The Kal-L spaceship arrives on Earth-Two in Smallville, and John and Mary Kent meet him.
June 18, 1916 - The Kents adopt the infant Kal-L after the orphanage they sent him to discovered he had super strength and name him Clark Kent.
1917 - According to Night Force Vol. 1 #1, Baron Winters flees Russia during the Russian Revolution.
1917 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Shell-shocked Stefan Wasserman is discharged from the military at fifteen years old.
1917 - On Earth-Two, Richard Grey, an archaeologist, leads an expedition in Mongolia, bringing his wife Anne and son, Richard Greay, Jr. At night Yakki robbers led by Gali Kan attack the camp, killing both Richard and Anne Gray and every last man, but the child survives after his mother hid him behind some rocks. After the attackers leave, a condor takes the child back to their nest on the high peak and begins to breed it along with their own puppies.
April 2nd, 1917 - The United States officially enters World War 1. And when America joined the fight, a flying ace from Opal City named Steve Savage earned the nickname Balloon Buster for his daring exploits.
Saturday, July 7th, 1917 - At 7 a.m., in Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, John L. Thunder, the seventh son of the Thunder Family is born, "in the seventh circle of the moon Lahseen." According to Badhnisian prophecy, such a male child, on his seventh birthday, would have the power to rule the world and the Badhnisians wanted to rule the child.
August 1st, 1917 - In The Demon Vol. 3 #0, Etrigan participates in the Third Battle of Ypres, killing both British and German soldiers.
1918 (Summer) - In Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, Johnny Thunder (around 1 year old) is kidnapped by Badhnisians and brought to the oriental country of Badhnisia and the Temple of the Seven Great Gates where they conduct a mystical ceremony and adorn him with the Eternal Zone of the Zodiac - a belt that will give Johnny "world-dominating power" on his seventh birthday. But Badhnisia's neighbor, Agolea, fearful of that power, declares war on Badhnisia and wins. The woman who had originally kidnapped Johnny is charged with raising him in secret and takes him to a small fishing village north of Brunei, Borneo.
November 11th, 1918 - Germany officially surrenders and World War 1 ends.
Following the war, a former spy began his globe-trotting adventures and eventually became renowned as Congo Bill in his adopted home of Africa.
1919 - Giovanni Zatara is born.
1920 - In the Valley of Ur, the archaeologist Sven Nelson is killed by a trap when discovering the chamber where the body of the magician Nabu rests. Nabu, awakened from his suspended animation, takes Kent, the son of Sven, as his disciple in the magical arts.
June, 1920 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Dr. John Hathaway of the Royal Museum commits suicide. His suicide note implicates Roderick Burgess in a scandal. An inquest is held, but Burgess is eventually acquitted of any wrong-doing.
1921 - Across the seas on the hidden isle of Themyscira, a baby girl named Diana was given life from the clay of Paradise Island by the love of her mother Hippolyta, legendary Queen of the Amazons, and the ancient magic of Olympus.
1922 - In Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, after July at the age of five, Johnny Thunder is playing in a fishing boat when a stiff wind carries him out to sea. He is found by an American freight ship by crewman Congreve, who, upon reaching New York City, is charged with taking him to the police. As they board a streetcar, Johnny is recognized by his father, Simon B. Thunder, who now works on the streetcar. He takes Johnny home again.
July 7th, 1923 - In Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, it rains for seven consecutive days all over the Earth. This sign from the heavens lets the High Priest of Aissor know that Johnny Thunder is still alive and that the ceremony to give him world-dominating power on his seventh birthday was successful. He sends people to scour the globe looking for Johnny, but they will not find him for sixteen years.
June 26th, 1924 - In Detective Comics #33, on Earth-Two, 9 year old Bruce Wayne witnesses the death of his parents in Crime Alley at the hands of Joe Chill. Afterwards, he swears that he will spend the rest of his life to avenge his parents' death by waging war on all criminals in Gotham City. He soon leaves journeys to every corner of the globe to study and train his body and mind to master countless forms of martial arts and ancient mental disciplines, learning to strike from the darkness undetected and to withstand physical and psychological rigors that would destroy lesser men.
On Paradise Island, Queen Hippolyta saw in her precocious young daughter the potential to surpass all Amazons, even herself. In time, the Oracles of Themyscira foretold that Diana would soon be as beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swift as Hermes and stronger than even the mighty Hercules. When even the Gods of Olympus took notice of the Princess of the Amazons, Hippolyta feared her daughter's future lay beyond the shores of Paradise Island, far from her mother and sisters.
1926 - On Earth-Two, Sylvester Pemberton is born.
August, 1926 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, young Alexander Burgess finds a picture of Dream in the Paginarum Fulvarum. He shows it to his father and they now know the identity of the being they have held captive for more than 10 years. That same month in the same issue, Ruthven Sykes begins having an affair with Ethel Cripps, the former mistress of Roderick Burgess.
1927 - In the Guns of the Dragon mini-series, General Chiang Kai-shek of China sends Enemy Ace, Bat Lash, Biff Bradley, Chop-Chop and General Joseph Warren Stillwell to Dinosaur Island to recover the Swords of Fan. On this mission, the group encounters Vandal Savage and Miss Fear.
September 26th, 1928 - On Earth-Two, Sandy Hawkins is born.
November 11th, 1928 - On Earth-Two, Dick Grayson is born to John and Mary Grayson.
August, 1929 - A major stock fall occurs in the United States, bringing about the global financial calamity known as The Great Depression.
1930 - On Earth-S, William Joseph "Billy" Batson and Mary Batson are born. Their parents' identity remain unknown. at six months old, however, their parents would die and the twins would be separated. Billy would be sent to live with his uncle Ebeneezer, and Mary would be adopted by the Bromfields and be renamed Mary Bromfield. But as for Billy, his uncle would kick him out and steal his inheritance, forcing Billy to live in the subway station of Fawcett City and survive by selling newspapers until the age of ten.
November, 1930 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, a schism brings chaos to the Order of Ancient Mysteries. Member Ruthven Sykes betrays the Order and steals a large sum of money, as well as several mystical artifacts that once belonged to Dream. He and Ethel Cripps move to San Francisco.
December, 1930 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, after betraying the Order of Ancient Mysteries, Ruthven Sykes sells the helm of Dream to the demon Choronzon for protection. In exchange, Choronzon enchants the Dreamstone, giving Sykes protection against the vengeful Roderick Burgess so long as he wears it.
1932 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Desire of the Endless rapes the sleeping Unity Kincaid, impregnating her. This sets into motion a chain of events that will culminate with the death of Desire's brother Dream.
1932 - In Monolith Vol. 1 #1, gangsters murder a bootlegger named Peter. Peter's lover, Alice Cohen, desires revenge and collaborates with her friends, Han and Rabbi Reva, to animate a stone golem with a mystical tome known as the Sefer Yetzirah. The immortal golem later becomes known as the Monolith.
January 30th, 1933 - On Earth-Two, Adolf Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany.
1933 - In Crack Comics Vol. 1 #1, on Earth-Two, Richard Gray, Jr., now a young man who has studied the flight of condors all his life, finds that he can fly like them. With their superior intelligence, he quickly becomes their leader by speaking to them in their own language. One day, after descending to the plains to look for food, Richard is attacked by giant eagles and falls to the ground, where he is found by an old Christian hermit monk named Father Pierre. Pierre calls him Black Condor and begins to teach him during the next year how to speak English.
1930s - Clark Savage Jr., better known as Doc Savage, begins his adventures with his aides, The Fabulous Five; Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Blodgett "Monk" Mayfair, Brigadier General Theodore Marley "Ham" Brooks, Colonel John "Renny" Renwick, Major Thomas J. "Long Tom" Roberts, and William Harper "Johnny" Littlejohn.
Gruff detective Slam Bradley moves to Gotham City.
Young aviator Hop Harrigan begins his exploits in the skies.
Private eye Speed Saunders takes his first case.
1935 - In New Fun Comics Vol. 1 #6, on Earth-Two, Dr. Occult begins his career as a supernatural detective.
1936 - In Blackhawk Vol. 2 #1, Janos Prohaska flies with the Bill Heywood Squadron.
1936 - In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, Ethel Cripps leaves her lover Ruthven Sykes and steals the Dreamstone from him. No longer protected by the amulet, Sykes is now vulnerable to attack. Occultist Roderick Burgess uses his magic powers to kill Sykes for betraying the Order of Ancient Mysteries 6 years prior.
1936 - On Earth-Two, Auburn Automobile begins distribution of the Cord 810. Within a couple years, 23 year old millionaire Bruce Wayne would purchase one and use it as his first "Batmobile" before customizing it.
1936 - Doctor Occult briefly adopts a red suit with a cloak to face the supernatural adversary Koth. Due to this adventure, Occult is regarded as the first superhero in uniform by some.
July, 1936 - In Blackhawk Vol. 2 #1, the Spanish Civil War begins. British actor and aviator Death Mayhew serves as a pilot in the war.
August, 1936 - In All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #23, the Summer Olympics open in Berlin, Germany. Libby Lawrence competes in the women's swimming competition and William Everett competes in long-distance running, but due to the prevailing racism of the time, William found few alternatives to work when he returned to the USA, becoming a janitor for Dr. Terry Curtis.
The old friend of Crimson Avenger and Wing, Wesley Dodds, aided by fashionable socialite Dian Belmont, is driven by prophetic nightmares to don a fedora, gas mask and trench coat as The Sandman. But he wouldn't do so until mid 1939.
A scrappy sixteen year old army brat raised on military bases across the globe runs away to make her mark in the bright lights of the greatest city in the world, Metropolis. In no time at all, the world would know the name of Lois Lane, Girl Reporter.

Golden Age

1938 - On Earth-Two, Mary Kent dies. An indefinite amount of time after Mary's death, John Kent dies, but not before counseling his son, Clark, to use his powers for the benefit of mankind.
March 13th, 1938 - Baroness Paula von Gunther's husband, Gottfried, is murdered by Nazi agents when he refuses to surrender his wealth.
April, 1938 - According to Action Comics Vol. 1 #1, on Earth-Two, Clark Kent moves to Metropolis and taking a job as a journalist in the Daily Star newspaper he starts his uniformed career as Superman, marking the beginning of the Golden Age. Zatara and Mister America also started their careers in the same month.
May, 1938 - Paula von Gunther receives the ashes of her husband by the Nazis in a cigar box. His daughter Gerta is arrested in a concentration camp and Paula is forced into service as a slaver and spy in the United States. These events lead to insane cruelty.
October 13th, 1938 - Hitler acquires the Spear of Destiny in a museum in Austria and takes it to Berlin.
October 31st, 1938 - Crimson Avenger begins his heroic career.
1939 - A year after Clark Kent took up the identity of Superman, Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City after nearly a decade abroad to begin his war on crime. Inspired by a bat flying in the caves beneath Wayne Manor, he assumed the fearsome disguise of Batman to strike into the hearts of the cowardly and superstitious criminal underworld.
1939 - In time, Superman meets one of his first villains in Action Comics Vol. 1 #13, Ultra-Humanite. However, at that time, Ultra-Humanite was just a crippled mad scientist who sought to conquer the entire world. Superman first learned about Ultra-Humanite when stopping an underworld organization known as the Cab Protective League, which was led by a racketeer named Jackie Reynolds and was trying to seize control of the lucrative taxi trade in Metropolis. The union, financed by Ultra-Humanite, intimidated other cab drivers through violence and threats against passengers. Once apprehended, Reynolds was convicted and sentenced to Sing Sing Penitentiary. However, he escaped by use of a cigarette that emitted a "mysterious gas" that knocked rendered the guards outside his cell unconscious. Superman tracked him down to a secluded cabin hideout, but before he could take him back to Sing Sing, he spotted a second figure. A "paralyzed cripple" whose "fiery eyes... burn with a terrible hatred and sinister intelligence": the Ultra-Humanite. Ultra knocked the Man of Steel unconscious with enough electricity "to kill five hundred men," and he and Reynolds proceeded to kill him by putting him with a buzz saw. However, Superman's skin showed that he had Invulnerability because the saw blade was obliterated when it made contact with him. Ultra and his minions proceeded to set the cabin on fire and leave Superman to perish. While Ultra-Humanite was carried outside to a waiting aircraft, Superman regained consciousness and deliberately crashed the plane. However, Ultra's body was nowhere to be found. Superman would clash with Ultra again in Action Comics Vol. 1 #14, when, after scores of subway riders get injured in the collapse of a subway tunnel, Superman discovers that Star Inc., the firm that built the tunnel, defrauded the city by using substandard materials. Superman pursued some of the criminals, and they lead him to the Ultra-Humanite. However, as Superman tries to barge in and apprehend Ultra, the villain freezes him in a block of crystal, but Superman was able to escape and stop Ultra's plans. This wouldn't be the last time Superman would battle against Ultra, because in Action Comics Vol. 1 #15, Superman foiled his plan to extort millions of dollars from a cruise line, but Ultra managed to escape thanks to a hologram. In Action Comics Vol. 1 #19, a mysterious epidemic swept through Metropolis, killing hundreds. A young scientist named Professor Henry Travers concocted an antidote, but Ultra captured him, prompting Superman to come to the rescue. Ultra's henchmen fired an unknown ray and Superman and knocked him unconscious. Ultra tried to hypnotize him with a mind control helmet, and sent him with his henchmen to spread the plague but Superman faked being under the helmet's powers and destroyed the "fantastic airship of Ultra's creation" that was spreading its "cargo of Purple death". Superman returned to Ultra's stronghold where the villain is ready to blast him, but Superman places him in front of the gun, killing Ultra-Humanite. In Action Comics Vol. 1 #20, however, Superman learned that Ultra's assistant temporarily revived him "via adrenaline". Ultra then ordered his henchmen to kidnap actress Dolores Winters in order to transplant his brain into her body. As Dolores, Ultra announced her retirement from acting and throws retirement party aboard her yacht, "The Sea-Serpent". When the party is in full swing and the yacht moves out to sea, her henchmen hold the guests at gunpoint. She announces via the ship's radio that she demands a $5 million dollar ransom in exchange for the release of the captives. Dolores also reveals that she has placed helmets on the guests that were wired to a control board so that she can electrocute them if her demands aren't met. Despite getting the ransom, she decides to kill the hostages anyway. Superman thwarts that idea by throwing a huge stalagmite into the switch board, breaking the electrical connection. When Superman tries to capture her, she waves a lighted torch in front of the hostages, and Superman realizes that it's really Ultra-Humanite in the body of a woman. Superman extinguishes the torch, but Ultra dives into the water and makes her escape.
1939 - In Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, polo player Rodrigo "Rodney" Gaynor happens to enter the town of Seguro, New Mexico, where he learns of an expected lynching of a local man and the planned inaction of the Sheriff. Escorting a Miss Dillon, who is passionate about saving the man, to the church, Rodney discovers the priest has the costume and whip of the legendary hero El Castigo. Rodney takes up the identity of "The Whip" and helps rescue the boy.
July, 1939 - Wesley Dodds no longer suffers from nightmares. In Adventure Comics Vol. 1 #40, Wesley Dodds takes to the streets of New York to fight crime as The Sandman. His first case is on a mysterious hooded criminal known as the Tarantula, who had kidnapped a movie actress known as Vivian Dale. However, after finding where Vivian was being held, Sandman unmasked the Tarantula to reveal a man who was Vivian's house guest, named Crossart. According to Sandman Vol. 2 #1, with his new calling as a superhero/mystery man, Dodds now sleeps the "Sleep of the Just".
August 14, 1939 - According to Booster Gold Vol. 2 #2, while exploring the Tomb of Kha-Ef-Re in Egypt, Daniel Garrett and Luri find the Blue Beetle Scarab. Shortly after collecting it, Dan uses the power of the Blue Beetle to save Luri from a cave-in.
September 1, 1939 - Nazi Germany invades Poland, beginning the Second World War.
On Earth-Two, with the war growing in Europe, Lois Lane remained abroad as a war correspondent for the Daily Star.
1939 - One night in Gotham City, in Detective Comics Vol. 1 #36, Batman watches some thugs kill a man, but apprehends them. Turns out, the thugs are henchmen who work for Professor Hugo Strange, a criminal scientist who vows to set a trap for the Caped Crusader and make him his next victim. Strange knows that Batman is a threat to his plan, which is using a stolen "concentrated lightning" machine to create dense fog every night, so that his henchmen can rob the city banks unseen. When Batman arrives at the spot where the trap is set for him, over a dozen of Strange's men are waiting. Batman fights valiantly, but ends up getting knocked out by a thug wielding a baton (called a blackjack in the 30's). Batman wakes up in Strange's lair, where the mad scientist has hung him up by his wrists and lashes him with a wrist. However, Batman breaks the ropes, fills the room with gas from his gas pellets, and tackles Strange. Professor Hugo Strange is locked in Arkham Asylum (called Manhattan City Asylum in the comics), but plans to escape. In Batman Vol. 1 #1, Strange did escape with 5 fellow inmates. He then used the inmates, due to their insane nature, as guinea pigs for a powerful artificial growth hormone. The growth formula turns them into 15 foot monsters. Strange then makes them wear bulletproof clothing and sets them loose to cause chaos in Gotham while his men rob commit robberies. Strange then injects Batman with the serum, but Batman manages to create a vaccine to save himself. He also manages to trick two of the monsters that Strange left to guard him to kill themselves. He then takes to the Batplane to take down and kill the other monsters, and send Strange to his apparent demise, but he suspects that Strange survived.
Although hunted by the corrupt police department, Batman soon gained the trust of one of Gotham’s few honest cops, James Gordon, who would later build a Bat-signal to shine over Gotham whenever the city needed help from its mysterious protector.
1939 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #1, Jason Peter Garrick, a student at Midwestern University in Keystone City, accidentally inhales heavy water vapors while taking a break in the lab where he was working when he leaned against a chemical flask and caused the beakers to crash on the floor. Jay was soon found and rushed to the hospital. Weeks later, he woke up to realize that he had developed a strong appetite, a rapid metabolism, and enhanced reflexes. Jay's doctor speculated that the accident made him the fastest man alive. Jay later showed his new Super-Speed to his sweetheart, Joan Williams, and she suggested that he use his new super power to help the college football team. Jay did so, and became the school hero. However, Joan became the target of a drive-by assassination, but Jay saved her. Joan then explained that it was probably part of a scheme on the part of a group of men known as The Faultless Four to make Joan's father, whom they kidnapped, to reveal the location of a secret atomic research base. Jay then decided to take up a costumed identity modeled after Mercury, which included attaching wings on his shoes and his father's World War 1 helmet and wearing a red pullover, inspired by his school football uniform, with a lightning bot across the chest. However, instead of wearing a mask like other superheroes he read about, Jay decided to vibrate his face fast enough for no one to recognize him. And so, The Flash was born. Using his super-speed, Flash saved Joan's father and, haphazardly, causes the Faultless Four's deaths when they drove off the side of the road and into a canyon while trying to get away. From then on, Jay Garrick was the sworn protector of Keystone as The Flash.
1939 - Darrel Dane invents a shrinkage serum and becomes Doll Man.
November, 1939 - Seriously injured by an explosion, Marine Hank Heywood volunteers for an experimental procedure that turns him into a formidable cyborg soldier, becoming Steel, the indestructible man.
1940 - After being disfigured by acid, a Prussian nobleman undergoes an experimental treatment to unlock the latent powers of his mind and body. Like Baron Blitzkrieg, he becomes the main metahuman agent of Nazi Germany.
1940 - Alias the Spider and Red Torpedo begins their careers.
February, 1940 - In More Fun Comics Vol. 1 #52, Jim Corrigan, a hard-boiled police officer in Cliffland, New Jersey, gets a tip from a stool pigeon named Louis Snipe about a warehouse robbery that was about to unfold on the order of crime lord Gat Benson, just before he could announce his engagement with Clarice Winston. At the warehouse Snipe told Corrigan about, Jim and some other cops busted the crooks. However, Benson ordered his thugs to kidnap Clarice and Jim, and to have Jim killed. The thugs knocked Corrigan out, placed him in a barrel, filled it with cement, and was sent to swim with the fishes. Jim's spirit soared toward Heaven, but was denied entry. And so, Corrigan was sent back down to Earth to wipe out all crime. Jim soon found that he was a ghost, meaning that he could walk through walls, disappear, and fly. Jim then hunted down the gangsters and killed them. However, a stray bullet hit Clarice. Jim held her in his arms, and discovered that he could also heal wounds. Jim then realized that he could no longer be with Clarice, and severed all ties with her, including his engagement. And so, Jim Corrigan created his costume and vowed to root out all evil on Earth. And so, The Spectre was born.
1940 - In Metropolis, in Action Comics Vol. 1 #21, Ultra-Humanite learns of the discovery of an atomic weapon created by physicist Terry Curtis. With his brain in the body of Delores Winters, Ultra was able to seduce and kidnap the scientist. After extended torture, Curtis agrees to help Ultra-Humanite to build an atomic arsenal. Ultra then makes her demand of $2 million dollars known to the public, or else she will blow up every building and destroy all life in Metropolis. As a demonstration, she promises to destroy the Wentworth Tower. When an airship arrives to destroy it, Superman steps in and stops the airship long enough for all the people inside the tower to escape. Superman destroys the disintegrator, and follows the plane to Ultra's lair, which is a city inside a volcano, and destroys the robot guards. Inside, Ultra threatens to destroy Metropolis if Superman moves any closer. Ultra then tells Superman that she'll let Curtis go if he brings her crown jewels, expecting him to be destroyed by the guards in the process as she alerts them. Superman returns with the jewels, but Ultra goes back on her end of the deal and sends diamond drills after the Man of Steel. Superman breaks them apart, and Curtis stops Ultra from pulling a lever that will destroy Metropolis. Superman then disintegrates the photoelectric cell connections. Confronted again with her ultimate foe, Ultra-Humanite dives to her apparent death in the crater of the volcano.
1940 - In Adventure Comics Vol. 1 #48, in upstate New York, after Rex Tyler discovers a "miraculous vitamin", which he calls Miraclo, that can increase the strength and vitality of mice, but can give a human super strength and super speed for only one hour and keeping the discovery a secret, he decided to use the formula on himself and use the powers of said formula to become the superhero of Appleton City. And so, Rex Tyler dons a costume he found in an abandoned costume shop for his disguise and from that day on, Hourman was born. Eventually, in Adventure Comics Vol. 1 #53, he formed group of sidekicks that would be known as the Minute Men of America.
March, 1940 - On Earth-Two, in Batman Vol. 1 #38, Batman takes in eight year old Dick Grayson after his parents are killed in the middle of their trapeze act in the circus due to an accident. Dick reveals to Batman that he overheard some thugs talking to the circus owner about protection money, and Batman tells him that the thugs actually work for a man named Tony Zucco. The pieces fit together and it becomes clear that Zucco ordered his men to do the crime. Batman then reveals his secret identity to Dick, and then makes him swear an oath that he will fight by Batman's side as his partner. Dick takes the oath, and becomes Robin. Together, Batman and Robin take down Zucco and his gang.
1940 - A robber named "Red Hood" flees from Batman and Robin when he steals from the Ace Playing Card Company and into the chemical tank that empties into the river to escape while Batman and Robin presumed him dead. Although he fled with a large sum of money, the chemicals change the colors of his skin and hair.
1940 - On Earth-Two, in Batman Vol. 1 #1, a new criminal emerges in Gotham, but unbeknownst to Batman or Robin, this new criminal was originally the robber they met at the Ace Playing Card Company, Red Hood, but now, with his hair and skin color changed, he became a psychopathic clown known as the Joker. At first, Joker had the plot to kill people using his own weapon called "Joker Venom". What he would do was sneak into his target's room, poison them just a day before the poison can take effect, and announce on the radio that his target would die at a specific time as a "prediction". When the poison took effect, the victim's mouth was stretched into a grotesque Joker grin. However, Batman and Robin tracked him down and sent him to prison. Though two days later, Joker returned with plans of vengeance. First, he kills Gotham Police Chief Chalmers with Joker venom, then steals both a painting and a gem with the guards dead at the scene. Batman tries to stop him from stealing the Cleopatra necklace, but fails. Soon, Edgar Martin, a man who calls for the Joker's capture, dies from a pack of poison-laced playing cards. The next day, Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Jim Gordon set up a trap for Joker, and start printing articles in Gotham newspapers about the Fire Ruby. Joker thinks it's a trap, but goes anyway. When he arrives, the police surround him, but he makes for the roof, where Robin starts to follow him. Joker notices he's being followed, and sends Robin off a rooftop. Joker checks to see if he's dead, but Robin grabbed on to a flagpole to save himself. Joker prepares to finish Robin, when Batman arrives and fights him. Joker ends up stabbing himself in the heart, and Batman and Robin flee. The police arrive and check on Joker, and find that he's still alive. Later, Batman and Robin uncover a new villain, a mysterious burglar and jewel thief known as the Cat (later known as Catwoman), but Batman lets her get away.

1940 - In All-American Comics Vol. 1 #16, on Earth-Two, a green lantern, formerly a lantern that belonged to an inmate at Arkham Asylum who turned sane when bombarded by the light of the lantern, fulfilling the second prophecy of the Starheart it was forged from, which was to bring life, falls into the hands of Alan Scott, a young railroad engineer. Following a railroad bridge collapse, the flame of the lantern instructed and guided Scott to fashion a ring from its metal. And so, with a red, purple, yellow, and brown costume, Alan Scott uses the fantastic power of the ring to become the Green Lantern. With his powers, he managed to defeat the crooks who caused his train accident, but also discovered his weakness to wood. Thus fulfilling the final prophesy of the Starheart, which was to give power.
1940 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #1, on Earth-Two, American archaeologist Carter Hall finds the ancient knife that Hath-Set used to kill Khufu, and discovers that he is the reincarnation of Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt. He then later discovers that Shiera Sanders is the reincarnation of Chay-Ara and that Anton Haster is the reincarnation of Hath-Set. Carter then forms a belt that can defy gravity by using the properties of "Nth Metal", along with a costume with wings in order to control his flight direction, and so, Carter Hall became Hawkman. Anton had Shiera in his lair and under his spell, until Hawkman swoops in and kills him. From then on, the two of the them began a romance, and Shiera eventually became Hawkgirl.
On Earth-Two, Uncle Sam appears in the 20th Century.
According to Smash Comics Vol. 1 #13, on Earth-Two, a power line worker named Tom Dalton becomes Magno, the Magnetic Man.
On Earth-Two, when facing Xnon, Spectre gains the Ring of Life from the Voice, vastly increasing its powers.
According to Smash Comics Vol. 1 #14, on Earth-Two, Happy Terril goes on an experimental Strato-Balloon flight into the upper stratosphere. While in the stratosphere, Happy is forced to go outside to close an airlock. Turbulence causes him to be thrown into a cosmic storm. But instead of killing him, the storm turns Happy into a superhero known as The Ray.
On Earth-Two, pint-sized brawler Al Pratt finishing his boxing training with Joe Morgan, dons a mask and fights crime as The Atom.
On Earth-Two, Ma Hunkel becomes the original Red Tornado.
On Earth-Two, Kulak awakes from his tomb and fights Spectre; the actions of the villain increase the agressivity around the world.
July, 1940 - According to Secret Origins Vol. 2 #13, either on or after July 7th, Johnny Thunder, now 23, accidentally summons the Thunderbolt for the first time and saves the life of a window washer. Soon afterward, he accidentally summons the Thunderbolt again while being ambushed by Badhnisians seeking to return him to their home country so his powers can be used by the High Priest. In neither event did Johnny learn how he was able to summon the Thunderbolt and, as the Thunderbolt is unable to communicate it, Johnny must figure it out on his own.
1940 - Joe Higgins, the son of Lieutenant Tom Higgins, finishes a solution that his father created in 1916 that the Germans were after, thus leading to Tom's death at the hands of German saboteur Hans Fritz and the Black Tom Explosion. The solution that Joe completes requires him to apply chemicals to certain parts of his anatomy. Sacrum on the heart, Innervation on the eyes, and Derma on the lungs. The solution also requires him to expose himself to x-rays. The result of the solution grants Joe super strength, the ability to make great leaps, and invulnerability. Joe then dons the moniker of The Shield, joins the F.B.I, and fights foreign agents and other threats to the U.S., and clears his father's name when he was posthumously blamed for the Black Tom Explosion.
1940 - In Batman Vol. 1 #2, Joker is revealed to have survived his stabbing in the previous issue. Batman plans take him to a specialist to mend his mind and cure him of his insanity, but a crime gang in need of a leader called Crime Syndicate Inc. kidnaps him and makes him their boss. The crooks plan to use Joker to steal the priceless Pharaoh Gems. The crooks force some doctors to operate on Joker at gunpoint, until Commissioner Gordon arrives with some other cops. The gang's temporary leader Weasel has a Batman impostor lead the cops away, but the impersonator is shot dead in a barn after killing two cops and is revealed to be a wanted criminal named Circus Charlie. Meanwhile, Joker is brought back to full health and double-crosses his saviors immediately. Batman and Robin arrive at the hospital and find Catwoman waiting outside. She gives Batman some information about Joker and manages to escape, however, Batman reveals to Robin that he had the floor of his Cord covered by a radioactive material that Catwoman now has on her feet. Batman then gives Robin a special flashlight to follow Catwoman and track her movements, and he eventually finds and busts the Crime Syndicate. Catwoman then pays a visit to E.S. Arthur, the owner of the Pharaoh Gems, at his castle, but she ends up finding Arthur dead. Joker then pops in, hold Catwoman up, and reveals that he killed him. Robin suddenly swoops in and takes him on, but is knocked out cold. Catwoman decides to trade the Pharaoh Gems in exchange for sparing Robin's life. Batman then arrives and faces Joker in a sword duel, but Joker wins and knocks Batman out a window. Joker tries to kill both Catwoman and Robin with flaming arrows, but sets the tower on fire in the process. Batman comes back in and fights Joker one on one and wins, but is then forced to leave him in the burning tower in order to carry Robin to the Batplane. Catwoman then evades Batman once again by jumping off the Batplane and into the water below.
1940 - In Batman Vol. 1 #3, Catwoman makes a return, this time wearing a mask that has the startling resemblance of a real cat and robbing from the wealthiest people of Gotham. In response, Commissioner Gordon assigns Detective McGonigle to the case. Meanwhile, on his daily patrol, Batman witnesses a murder in the streets and learns from the dying victim that the Diamond Syndicate are behind it, however, a thug sneaks up behind Batman and knocks him unconscious. Batman is then saved by Detective McGonigle, but is handcuffed as well. Batman regains consciousness, and knocks out the detective in order to escape. The next day, Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon head out to investigate the murder at the Diamond Syndicate headquarters. The members of the organization are baffled by the news of the murder, and inform Gordon that they fear for the safety of the jewels that will be at a gala, organised to showcase their best jewels, that night. At the Gala, Bruce Wane is in attendance, and he witnesses one of the models wearing the jewelry throw a blinding powder to the audience, and escapes with the jewels. Turns out that the model is Catwoman, but she is soon abducted by some gangsters and placed inside a car. As the car speeds off with Catwoman and the jewels, Robin follows in his small roadster. Bruce, meanwhile, changes into his Batman costume, and goes to the home of one of the members of the Diamond Syndicate, but he is attacked when he arrives. He's surprised that he was attacked, but soon fill Robin in with the updates. Batman takes the man to the main headquarters of the Diamond Syndicate, where the other members have kidnapped Catwoman and reveal their plot; the second member of the syndicate hired Catwoman to steal some of the jewels, as well as the man who was killed the night before, in order to take away all the revenue for himself. However, when he realized that Catwoman and any others involved would take a piece of his take, he decided to eliminate them all so he would become the sole owner of the Diamond Syndicate. Batman and Robin fight off the thugs, and rescue Catwoman. But, in order to escape jail time, Catwoman gives Batman a grateful kiss and escapes, but Batman doesn't seem to mind. Later, Batman delivers the stolen jewels to Detective McGonigle, who is still sour with Batman for escaping him, while Catwoman, elsewhere, drives away from Gotham, wishing that Batman was with her.
1940 - In Detective Comics Vol. 1 #40, a remake of the film "Dark Castle" is about to be filmed, and Bruce Wayne's fiance Julie Madison is going to be in it. But soon, one of Madison's colleagues and her boyfriend are murdered on the set. Batman investigates the murders, and finds the male victim right before he dies, and he manages to identify the killer as Clayface. Batman and Robin then take the investigation to the film set, and there, Batman spots some gangsters. However, they're not the ones behind the murders. Meanwhile, Robin finds the real murderer, Clayface, and the killer attacks him and sends him into the castle moat. Batman saves him, but Clayface escapes. The next day, Julie's death scene is being filmed, and Clayface is about to strike, when Batman and Robin intervene. Batman takes off Clayface's disguise, revealing his identity of Basil Karlo, the make-up man and embittered ex-actor who wanted to kill the actors that were remaking another film he starred in called "The Terror".
1940 - In Detective Comics Vol. 1 #45, Batman spots a group of suspicious looking men walking towards a museum and decides to follow them. When the men attack the guard and break into the place, Batman stops them fast. However, one manages to escape, and Batman follows him to his hideout, where he vanishes into a brick wall. Turns out that the man used a secret entrance to meet with his boss, an old music collector called A. Rekoj, who is displeased to learn that Batman foiled his thugs. When the creator is left alone, he goes to a secret place under a trap door and removes his make-up of an old man, to reveal his true identity: the Joker. The Harlequin of Hate then plans his next strike against the city's District Attorney, and on the outside, Batman decides to keep an eye on the place. The next day, D.A. Carter receives a mysterious vinyl record and decides to play it. The music is eerie, and a message is soon spoken by the voice of the Joker. The Joker tells the D.A. that the vinyl record was tainted with his trademark Joker Venom, and soon, Carter falls under the influence of the poison, laughing out of control, to death. The police enter the apartment, but are too late. The news spreads, and Batman and Robin are now aware of the Joker's return. That night, Batman keeps an eye on the criminal's hideout, while on the inside, Rekoj prepares his henchmen to strike at a gala event and steal some gems. The henchmen are dressed as a brass band, but when they get on their way, Batman follows them. Their plan goes well, until they are attacked by the Joker, who takes the gems away from them, and then by Batman, who enters the place and fights the thugs. Joker escapes, Batman tries to stop him, but Joker gets the upper hand and gets away. Upon recovering, Batman follows the group of henchman back to their headquarters and he finally learns about the secret door in the brick wall. Inside, Batman observes Rekoj scolding his henchmen for failing him, and when he's left alone, Batman witnesses the villain's identity transformation. Aware of Batman's presence, Joker explains that he used his henchmen to do all the jobs, and followed by up by stealing the loot from his own hoods. Batman tries to stop the Joker, but ends up trapped inside a glass dome while Joker escapes. Using an acid vial from his utility belt, Batman escapes and learns of a valuable jade Buddha statue arriving in Gotham aboard a ship. But this, too, is part of Joker's plan. Using his identity as Rekoj, Joker manages to get inside the ship, and soon eliminates the guards and finds the statue. Batman starts chasing the Joker, and the crew of the boat think that he wants to steal it from them and get in his way. With help from Robin, who takes care of the crew, Batman catches the Joker and grabs the statue. In the struggle, Joker falls into the ocean. Wondering if Joker will ever make a comeback, Batman and Robin deliver the statue to the crew, and get on their way back to Gotham.
1940 - In Detective Comics Vol 1 #46, Batman confronts a gang in a warehouse and beats them one by one until there's one man left standing. The "man" is a teenager, and Batman agrees to let him go if he tells them the gang's entire plan. The kid tells him that they were going to meet Professor Hugo Strange, who told them he had developed a new chemical for their next hit. The kid then gives Batman some pills that are supposed to prevent those who take them from falling under the effects of the chemicals. Batman takes them and tells the kid to meet him again the next night, and lets the entire gang go free. The gang goes to the meeting place and are greeted by Strange, who informs him about his new invention: fear dust. Using this new chemical weapon, Strange's gang will be able to commit crimes without having to worry about police intervention as they can use the fear dust against them and terrorize every person in the city. The next night, the teen sneaks away to meet with Batman, but Strange notices his behavior and has a goon follow him. The youngster meets Batman on a dark street, but before he can update Batman, the thug that followed the teen attacks Batman from behind and knocks him unconscious. Batman soon wakes up, surrounded by Strange's thugs and the Professor himself. They all beat Batman to a pulp and leave him in the basement of their secret hideout. When he recovers, Batman listens in on Strange talking to his henchmen about his plan in the next room. Waiting til after Strange leaves, Batman breaks into the other room and defeats the thugs. Afterwards, Batman contacts Robin and informs him of Strange's plan. Afterwards, Batman rushes to the nearest train station, where one of Strange's thugs is about to spread the fear dust among the people and he stops the criminal before running off to find Strange. Meanwhile, Robin takes out some of Strange's thugs on the water reservoir and at the city's main plaza, both places targeted to spread fear dust. Later, Batman finds Strange's secret hangar, after interrogating one of the thugs, and confronts the Professor inside, where he was planning to spread fear dust from the air. Batman and Strange fight a ruthless battle, but the Dark Knight wins in the end and Strange loses his footing and falls over a nearby cliff to a certain death as Robin joins Batman after saving the city once again.
1940 - In Batman Vol. 1 #4, the crew of a passing yacht spot Joker hanging on to a piece of driftwood in the ocean. They take him ashore, not knowing his identity, and he makes his way up to his hideout, an old gloomy mansion that is said to be haunted. Joker celebrates as he knows that Batman thinks he died, which gives him an advantage. Meanwhile, elsewhere, the Dynamic Duo attempt to stop a group of acrobatic thieves they caught stealing from a house. While in the process of beating them, a huge man with incredible strength comes out of the nearby parked car and beats the two crime fighters easily. Later, at Wayne Manor, Bruce gets an invitation to a ball that he decides to attend. After a while, the host of the party, Darcey, announces that a miniature circus will be performing in the ball room. Three days later, Dick Grayson reports that the Darcey family, who hosted the party, was robbed. Bruce estimates that this robbery makes the 6th one in a month. Bruce investigates and announces to Dick that every family that was robbed had a miniature circus perform for them. They then remember the robbers that they confronted days ago were acrobats, and the man who beat them was a strongman. Dick then reads in the newspaper, the Gotham Gazette, that the Morganbilt family is going to have the miniature circus perform for them. Bruce then decides that they'll interfere as Batman and Robin! The night of the performance, it's revealed that Joker is behind the thieves, known as the Crime Circus. Joker then introduces the circus gang to a new member and tells them that he's the surprise guest of the night. Once the performance starts, Joker steps forward and states that he has a surprise for the crowd, but before he can finish, the Dynamic Duo enter by leaping through the window. Robin takes care of the acrobats, and Batman handles the strongman. Joker makes his escape to the Haunted House with the Dynamic Duo right behind him. They enter the mansion, only to be mislead by several different traps, and Batman is eventually trapped in a room with illusions of the Joker's laughing face. Batman soon discovers that it's just a recording and stops it, but gas then enters the room. Batman mixes some vials from his utility belt and throws the pellet into the wall, causing it to explode. He finds Joker about to push Robin down a trap door, that goes all the way down to underneath the mansion. The two fight, and Joker knocks Batman down, only to be sent down the trap door himself as he tries to lunge forward at Batman, who sends him flailing over his head with his feet.
1940 - While fighting the evil Dr. Cobra in Central City in 1940, a young policeman named Denny Colt was doused with a liquid which put him in a deep coma. Believed dead, Denny was buried at Wildwood Cemetery, but awoke from his grave, twenty-four hours later. He established a secret crime-fighting base under his own tombstone, and from that day forward, using his new-found anonymity, he began to fight crime and protect the people of Central City as The Spirit. His identity is known only to his "driver," Ebony White and Police Commissioner Dolan.
1940 - In Whiz Comics Vol. 1 #2, at the age of 10, Billy Batson meets a mysterious man in a green cloak who tells Billy to follow him into the subway station. Inside, Billy spots a train that is covered in hieroglyphics. After boarding and riding the train, Billy arrives at his destination, known as The Rock of Eternity. There, he finds statues of the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man. At the end of the hall with the statues, Billy spots an old man in a white cloak. The man introduces himself as the wizard Shazam. Shazam explains that he has been fighting against the forces of evil for over 3000 years, and has decided to find a champion worthy of following in his footsteps. Billy is the champion he has sought, and tells Billy that he will be gifted the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. And with one word, Billy can become the Earth's mightiest mortal, Captain Marvel. The word he needs to speak is the wizard's name: Shazam. By saying the word, Billy becomes Captain Marvel, and is transported back to the entrance of the subway station. The next morning, Billy reads the newspaper and finds a threat printed by an anonymous maniac against the entire US broadcasting system. The messages says that unless his demand for fifty million dollars is met, he will use a ray to drive all radio stations off the air. On a hunch, Billy follows to suspicious men to the swanky Skytower Apartments, where he hears one complain about their "maniac scientist" boss. Billy then visit Sterling Morris at Amalgamated Broadcasting, where Morris refuses to entertain any belief that a reputable building like Skytower Apartments could host a criminal enterprise. While Billy gets shooed out of the office, he does convince Morris to offer him a job in exchange for catching the criminals. Later that night, Billy becomes Captain Marvel and visits the apartment building, discovering that the thugs are talking to their boss, soon revealed to be Doctor Sivana, over the television. Captain Marvel enters the room, easily takes out the thugs, and smashes the radio silencer in the process. While Sivana vows vengeance, Captain Marvel promises to bring him to justice, dead or alive. Billy returns to normal and invites Sterling Morris to see his handiwork. Morris gives Billy the job he promised him, and in his excitement, Billy almost gives away his secret identity, but stops himself in the process. Over time, Dr. Sivana does everything he can to stop Captain Marvel, including everything from tanks, to artillery that can shoot 75 miles, combat cars that can go up to 120 miles an hour, an army of super soldiers, and more.
November 9th, 1940 - According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #4, on Eath-Two, at the request of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the first ever team of superheroes is formed. The team consists of Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, The Atom, aka Al Pratt, Dr. Fate, aka Kent Nelson, The Flash, aka Jay Garrick, The Green Lantern, aka Alan Scott, Hawkman, aka Carter Hall, Hourman, aka Rex Tyler, The Sandman, aka Wesley Dodds, The Spectre, aka Jim Corrigan, and Superman, aka Clark Kent. This new group of mystery men/superheroes is officially known as The Justice Society of America. The group's first missions included thwarting Hitler's attacks on England and a bombing on the White House.
November 14th, 1940 - According to G.I. Combat Vol. 1 #240, on Earth-Two, O.S.S. agent Paul Woods is released from a London hospital with a metallic scalp-plate. He takes part in a suicide mission to destroy a Nazi broadcasting tower which aids the German military in successful bombing raids in England by using his scalp as an antenna, allowing a bomber plane to target his location once he entered the tower.
November 22nd, 1940 - Johnny Thunder meets the JSA
1941 - After a partnership with fellow G-Man, Ju-Ju Watson and his girlfriend, Betty, Joe Higgins/Shield got a kid partner in Pep #11 named Dusty Simmons. Dusty's father had been killed by foreign agents, and he was adopted by Joe and given a costume. Both heroes wore patriotic costumes under their street clothes and would change for action whenever they were needed (much like most superheroes of both the past and of today). Dusty would also team up with the kid partner of Blane Whitney, aka The Wizard, Roy the Super Boy, to form a team known as The Boy Buddies.
With war engulfing the world, an American spy and pilot named Steve Trevor crash landed on Paradise Island, the first man to ever set foot upon the adopted homeland of the Amazons. Intrigued by this strange newcomer, Princess Diana bested her sisters in a contest of skill and valor for the right to accompany Trevor back to Man's World in her Invisible Plane. Armed with the Lasso of Truth, she joined the ranks of the Justice Society of America to help defeat the armies of the God of War and his acolytes within the Axis Powers as Wonder Woman.
In time, Billy Batson shared his power with others, including his crippled friend Freddie Freeman, who became known as Captain Marvel Jr., and Billy’s long-lost sister, Mary, who became known as Mary Marvel. Together, as the Marvel Family, they foiled the schemes of Doctor Sivana and Shazam's corrupt former protégé, Black Adam.
April, 1941 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #16, Mexican bandit José Salvez kidnaps Joan Williams and takes her to Mexico. The Flash races across the border to rescue her.
April, 1941 - In All-American Comics Vol. 1 #25, Green Lantern investigates incidents of sabotage at a steel mill. The saboteur kidnaps Irene Miller, and Green Lantern has to rescue her, while also exposing the criminal's affairs.
April, 1941 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #16, Johnny Thunder gets a job working for millionaire Manny Bucks. One of Manny's stooges, Oscar Ovaseer, tries to get Johnny fired, but Johnny exposes Oscar's illegal activities.
April, 1941 - According to All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #4, Johnny Thunder saves Daisy Darling from a fake fortune teller named Mogli the Magnificent.
April, 1941 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #16, A corrupt police officer named Corrigan (not to be confused with Jim Corrigan), frames the King for the murder of Silas Hackett. The King disguises himself as Hackett's ghost in order to expose Corrigan's involvement.
While the war abroad escalated, the Justice Society expanded their membership. The naïve Johnny Thunder joined with the magic of his Thunderbolt
Top astrophysicist Ted Knight created his first cosmic rod and became the hero of Opal City, Starman, and would later join the JSA.
Blind doctor Charles McNider gained the power to see in complete darkness, later becoming known as Dr. Midnite and joining the JSA.
Ambitious genius Terry Sloane promoted Fair Play as Mr. Terrific. He soon joined the JSA.
Champion heavyweight boxer Ted Grant became inspired to fight crime as Wildcat and soon gained nine lives and became a member of the JSA.
December 6th, 1941 - In Justice League of America Vol. 1 #193, Per Degaton travels backwards in time from the year 1947 with several super-villains in a bid to take control of the world. His cronies succeed in capturing the most powerful members of the Justice Society of America.
December 7, 1941 - Japanese bomber planes attack Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and force the United States into World War 2. According to All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #1-#3, Naval officers Rod "Firebrand" Reilly and Slugger Dunn are believed killed during the attack. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt organized America's Mystery Men into the All-Star Squadron. Their ranks included photographer turned super-speedster Johnny Quick, patriotic powerhouse Liberty Belle, the time-lost Shining Knight of Camelot, Steel the Indestructible Man, stretchable ex-crook Plastic Man, and a scientist whose brain lived on as Robotman. A team of these heroes goes to Hawaii where they manage to free the captured JSA and defeat Per Degaton and his henchmen. In the process, Danette Reilly gains fire-related superpowers and ultimately becomes the second Firebrand.

World War 2

An author writing a book on the Mystery Men phenomenon became one himself, taking the name of Tarantula.
An Olympic champion gained powers and debuted as Amazing Man, whose tireless activism for civil rights soon eclipsed his accomplishments as a costumed crime-fighter.
1942 - In Men of War Vol. 1 #15, in Egypt, the Gravedigger intercepts a German Tiger division in order to procure top-secret documents from a Nazi officer named Eric Vonker.
1942 - In All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #59-#60, Aquaman briefly joins the All-Star Squadron, but prefers to work alone.
May, 1942 - In All-Star Squadron Vol. 1 #45, Baron Blitzkrieg and his comrades Zyklon and Major Zwerg attack Independence Hall in an effort to steal the Liberty Bell. They fight with Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle, but succeed in escaping with the bell.
July, 1942 - Though certainly no friend to the Nazi regime, Enemy Ace took to the air once again in the second World War against the Russians.
July 15, 1942 - In Speed Force Vol. 1 #1, The Fiddler, aka Isaac Bowin, kidnaps Joan Williams upon breaking out of prison suspecting that it will lure Flash into his trap, which it does. Flash is temporarily captured and placed in a trap but escapes with the help of an anonymous man (implied to be his future self) who tells him it is "very important" that Flash remembers today's date.
1942 - Not long after their debut, Nazis killed T.N.T. & Dyna-Mite, his kid sidekick, joined The Young All-Stars, the All-Star Squadron's youth auxiliary, with fellow teen heroes "Iron" Munroe, Flying Wolf, Fury, Neptune Perkins and Tsunami.
1943 - Adolf Hitler had gained possession of both the Spear of Destiny and the Holy Grail. The Axis Powers used these mystical artifacts to create a sphere of energy around their occupied territory that prevented America's most powerful heroes from fighting on the frontlines. However, many Mystery Men set aside their costumes to fight behind enemy lines as spies and saboteurs, including big game hunter Paul Kirk, Manhunter, and his old friend Tex Thompson, The Americommando. In addition, Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth & their ward Dick Grayson left Gotham City for Europe and the Pacific to work alongside the enigmatic spymaster known as Control of the O.S.S.
1943 - Nazi super-science empower Dr. Paula Von Gunther, the infamous Red Panzer and Baron Blitzkrieg to counter the efforts of Wonder Woman while the God of War manipulated the diabolical Dr. Psycho and Dr. Poison to further his plans.
1943 - In Fawcett City, Captain Nazi faces the Marvel Family.
1943 - With most of America's soldiers fighting abroad, the home front was kept safe from spies and gangsters by Guardian & The Newsboy Legion.
1944 - With the All-Star Squadron largely confined to defending Allied-controlled territory, it was left to the military to win the war on the battlefields while Blackhawk and his international squadron of flying aces helped defeat the Axis in the skies.
November, 1944 - In Vigilante: City Lights, Prairie Justice Vol. 1 #1, Bugsy Siegel kills Stuff, sidekick to Vigilante, aka Greg Sanders. Vigilante disrupts Bugsy's business activities in response. Bugsy contracts the Dummy to kill Vigilante. The Dummy rigs a houseboat with explosives and activates it while Vigilante is within, causing all to believe he has died.
The war gave rise to heroes like Sgt. Rock of Easy Company, brave Mademoiselle Marie of the French Resistance, the intrepid crew of the Haunted Tank, the indomitable Gravedigger, the Boy Commandos and the mysterious Unknown Soldier. The war zone also saw bizarre and supernatural combatants, including the mechanical G.I. Robot, the horrific Creature Commandos of Project M or those who fought the War that Time Forgot on Dinosaur Island, which claimed the lives of the ragtag squad dubbed The Losers.
1945 - In All-Star Comics Vol. 1 #45, the JSA educate a man named Dick Amber on the history of German warfare, dating all the way to the time of the Teutonic knights.
April, 1945 - In Flash Comics Vol. 1 #64, Hawkman faces off against the Monocle for the first time.
April 15th, 1945 - In Last Days of the Justice Society Special, thirteen members of the JSA act as honor guard for FDR's funeral in Hyde Park. The heroes vow to continue the war effort until the Axis powers are defeated.
April, 1945 - In Unknown Soldier Vol. 1 #268, the Unknown Soldier is sent on a mission to stop a Nazi super-weapon - vampiric octopuses called "Nosferatu". Then, on the 29th of that month, Unknown Soldier infiltrates Hitler's bunker, killing him and assuming the dictator's identity in order to call off a weapons deployment. He then makes Hitler's death look like a suicide.
May 1st, 1945 - In Swamp Thing Vol. 2 #82, The essence of a time-traveling Swamp Thing takes root in the body of U.S. soldier Alexander Holland. Holland assists Easy Co. in destroying a Nazi slaughter house/magus bunker run by Anton Arcane. Afterwards, Swamp Thing's spirit disappears again into the timestream.
1945 - Enemy Ace learns of the horrors of the Holocaust from four years prior and was outraged that Germany would perpetrate it. He ultimately proposed a mutiny when he returned to his airbase, and eventually surrendered his air unit to the allied forces, namely Sgt. Rock's company.
August 5th, 1945 - According to Justice Society of America Vol. 3 #27, The Enola Gay drops an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, killing millions. One of the casualties is Thomas Morita, aka, Kung.
As the war drew to a close, several costumed heroes had died or gone missing under mysterious circumstances, most notably the Spirit of America, Uncle Sam, who led Phantom Lady, the Ray, the Human Bomb, the Doll Man and Black Condor into a rift in space-time to a parallel Earth on which the Nazis had conquered the world. Their old ally Plastic Man wasn’t seen for decades after going deep undercover for the FBI as ‘Eel' O’Brian.
September 2, 1945 - Japan formally surrenders to the Allied Forces, bringing World War Two to an end.
June 12th-December 26th, 1946 - According to Vigilante: City Lights, Prairie Justice Vol. 1 #3, Benjamin "Bugsy" Seigel asks his partners for more money to make sure the Flamingo Hotel is open December 26. They are not happy about the request. The Vigilante bides his time and recovers his health and nerves. The day of the hotel's opening, however, is a bust. Dozens of confirmed celebrities fail to show. Bugsy's partners decide he must be killed as punishment. Meanwhile, the Vigilante returns to action, saving the lives of one of Bugsy's henchmen's wife and her adulterous lover.
1947 - According to Sandman Vol. 2 #1, occultist Roderick Burgess pleads with the captured Dream for power. Dream refuses. Old and embittered, Burgess dies in front of him. Roderick's cult, the Order of Ancient Mysteries, passes on to his son Alex.
January, 1947 - In Vigilante: City Lights, Prairie Justice Vol. 1 #4, Vigilante learns that Bugsy Siegel is targeted for asassination by the Dummy and intervenes (during which the Dummy is killed). Bugsy arranges for Vigilante to come to his home where he asks Vigilante to kill him (Bugsy doesn't want to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder and wants his killer to be a fearless man). When Vigilante explains his vendetta against him was about Bugsy's murder of Stuff, Bugsy doesn't even remember him. Vigilante decides to leave but Bugsy taunts him until Vigilante reconsiders and shoots him.
January, 1947 - According to Action Comics Vol. 1 #601, Janos Prohaska, the Blackhawk, sits in a bathtub in a hotel in Singapore mewling over some disparaging comic strips. A man named Zelecki bursts into the room holding a knife. He demands the $10,000 that Prohaska owes him. Janos whips out a gun he had secured in the tub with him and shoots Zelecki in the hand.
Crimson Avenger, the Shining Knight and their comrades; the modern day cowboy Vigilante, archers Green Arrow & Speedy, and the Star-Spangled Kid & Stripesy, disappear without a trace shortly after the war's conclusion during their battle with a villain known as Nebula Man. The final fate of these Seven Soldiers of Victory would remain a mystery for decades.
Aquaman, who had been the scourge of Nazi U-boats and pirates alike during the Second World War, would also disappear without a trace, never to be seen again.
1948 - Shortly after Superman's first encounter with Mr. Mxyzptlk, a mischievous imp from the 5th Dimension, Superman thwarted the racist minions of the Clan of the Fiery Cross with the help of a courageous little girl named Lan-Shin Lee. Clark Kent & Lana Lang formed an uneasy alliance with their old childhood friend and archenemy, Luthor, when Superman unwittingly freed the worst criminals of his homeworld from the Phantom Zone; the infamous mass murderer Jax-Ur, deadly Faora,, mindless Non, cruel Ursa and General Zod, the former leader of Krypton’s military. With Luthor’s help, Lana and Clark thwarted the Kryptonians' plot to conquer the Earth and imprisoned them back to the Phantom Zone. Humbled by his disastrous actions, left powerless from his final battle with Zod, and heartbroken by Lana’s return to Smallville, Superman disappeared from the public eye after finally reconciling with Alexei Luthor, who was instrumental in defeating the Kryptonian invasion and vowed to find redemption.

1969 - In Enemy Ace: World Idyll, von Hammer lived until 1969, dying peacefully after turning over his memoirs and concluding his interview with a troubled Vietnam veteran-turned-journalist.

Bronze Age

1970 - While in Spain, Bruce Wayne/Batman was forced to investigate a string of mysterious thefts, fires, and deaths that are linked to a motion picture about Von Hamer called "The Hammer of Hell", in honor of Hans von Hammer, that was being filmed. Turns out it was someone who looked almost exactly like Baron von Hammer, but in the end, his scarf on his von Hammer disguise got caught in the propeller of the plane he was flying during an air battle with Batman and yanked him out, sending him plummeting to his doom. During the fight, Batman noticed that he was flying his plane like he had been flying it for years, when he really only flew it for a short time a long time ago. It's possible that Batman was receiving help from the ghost of Baron von Hammer, who had joined him in the fight from beyond the grave.
