Biography[]
The Exile of Dormammu and Umar[]
Dormammu along with his sister Umar, are beings who belong to the Faltine, a society of extra-dimensional energy beings and was the son of the entity Sinifer. Dormammu and Umar began gathering matter to increase their powers, which eventually lead them to killing their own parent and being exiled from their home dimension by the rest of the Faltine. Their exile lead them into the world known as the Dark Dimension, a pocket universe of magic hidden from the rest of the universe and whose world had known peace for 28,000 years. The ruler of the Dark Dimension offered the siblings a trade: he wanted knowledge to shatter dimensional barriers and make more dimensions become part of the Dark Dimension in exchange for power and sanctuary. The ruler, King Olnar, eventually tried to conquer a world filled with entities known as the Mindless Ones, pseudo-sentient horrors capable of destroying gods which slew Olnar.
Early in his modern day attempts to conquer the Earth, he first worked through the sorcerer Baron Mordo, the apprentice to the sorcerer known as the Ancient One, who attempted to overthrow his master in Dormammu's service. In an attempt to save the ancient one, Doctor Stephen Strange tried to warn the Ancient One, only to be thwarted by Mordo. However, Mordo's plot was predicted by the Ancient One and he defeated Mordo and was inspired by Strange's act of goodness to take him on as a new apprentice.
Dr. Strange is finally forced to confront Dormammu when Dormammu's servant sends a message to the Ancient One letting him know of his intent to conquer the universe.
