The Fantastic Four is a superhero team in the Marvel Universe and a family of suer-powered explorers.
Origin
When scientist Reed Richards and his friends (his love interest Susan Storm, her brother Johnny Storm and Reed's friend Ben Grimm) tested an experimental rocket of his own design, they found themselves bombarded with cosmic rays. Upon landing on Earth, they discovered that they each had a unique super power, while Ben Grimm because monstrous in appearance and physiology. The group decided to use their powers to help humanity as superheroes and explorers, calling themselves the Fantastic Four.fg

The Birth of the Fantastic Four
- Please note that this will differentiate between the previously established continuity wherein the story is set squarely in the 1960's and the currently established continuity.
Genius Reed Richards had developed an experimental spacecraft with the intent to travel to other star systems. For his own reasons, Reed decided to make an unauthorized test flight with his friends: his girlfriend Susan Storm, her brother Johnny Storm and Reed's childhood friend Benjamin Grimm. In the original continuity, Reed decided to make the test flight due to being in a space race with communist Russia and Reed was determined to get his ship into space first. In the current established continuity, it was to prove the legitimacy of the project to Reed's financiers, who were losing confidence in his project.
Reed's ship worked but as the crew flew into space, they were bombarded with mysterious cosmic rays.

Originally the members were astronauts in a space station and one of the members (Ben Grimm) had to a task just outside the station. But then the stations scanner picked up a reading of a of a cosmic storm all the station members went inside except Ben who got full blast of the storm. The rest of the station died except Ben Grimm, Susan Storm, Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, and Victor von Doom. They returned to Earth when at night they experienced the effects of the storm and got mutated. But Victor use his mutations or powers for evil and became Doctor Doom and threaten to destroy the city so the others used their powers and defeated him and became the Fantastic Four.
