Paul Williams and Bob Hanson are enamored with the lore of the indigenous natives of the Louisiana Bayou. Barbara Hanson is Bob's sister, and also Paul's fiance. She finds herself listening to Paul and Bob's heated discussion over the legendary Blonde Witch of the Swamp, whom the natives also give the name of Ochakaloosa.
Paul, Bob, and Barbara decide to seek out the Witch. From their canoe, they end up saving a native who was sacrificed to the Witch by a "Tusca Indian" tribe. The native tells them of the Blonde Witch's legend. The witch compels men to drown themselves in the swamp. The only way for a man to control her is to touch her hair.
Camping on the shore overnight, skeptical Bob decides to go investigating while the others sleep. His canoe is caught in some branches. He sees a huge spider coming at him. The spider turns into the Witch. He struggles to resist, but he soon falls under her power. He tries to touch her hair, but he finds he cannot. Ochakaloosa grabs Bob and dives into the water with him.
When Paul and Barbara search for Bob, the Witch overturns their canoe. Barbara leaves Paul momentarily while she tries to pull the boat to shore. The Blonde Witch approaches Paul. She begins dragging him toward the water when he hears Barbara shout to him to resist. This breaks the Witch's power, and Paul struggles against her. She grows taller and stronger. Paul is losing the battle until Barbara tells him to touch the Witch's hair. Paul does so, and gains dominance over her.
The Blonde Witch's body goes limp. It begins to push Paul toward the water with irresistible force. Once in the water, the body of the Blonde Witch turns into a white-haired old woman. When the canoe returns to the rescued native to the tribe, Paul and Barbara discover they've been unwittingly towing an old tree trunk in the shape of a woman.
Powers and abilities[]
The Blonde Witch of the Swamp has hypnotic powers of allure and intimidation. She can shape-shift into an unnaturally large spider and can grow in height. Her strength is prodigious. She is powerless if a man touch her hair, and will die if that occurs.
