The Four Aces are a superhero team from the Wild Cards short story anthology series edited by George R. R. Martin.

OriginEdit

The Four Aces were normal humans given superpowers by an alien virus and were recruited by the government to fight evil.

HistoryEdit

In 1946, a mad criminal named Dr. Tod threatened to release an alien virus in Manhattan if he was not given $20,000,000.  When the government refused, he did just as he promised, the alien virus killing many with uncontrollable mutations,  However, many people survived and ended up developing super powers.  In the aftermath, Archibald Holmes, a US diplomat, assembled a response team to the scene of the disaster, where he discovered the reality that people with superpowers now exist.  The person who immediately gained his attention was Jack Braun, a man who was gifted with the ability of superhuman strength.  They then learned of Earl Sanderson, Jr., who publicly revealed his ability to fly and the three immediately formed a team of altruists called the Exotics for Democracy.
