The Frightful Four is a supervillain team in the Marvel Universe and an enemy of the Fantastic Four.

Origin

Originally formed by the mad scientist The Wizard, who was envious of Reed Richards, the Frightful Four teamed up to defeat the heroes who had defeated them before.

Biography

When the Wizard, a supervillain who used discs to control gravity, was accidentally sent into the upper atmosphere, he was rescued by chance when the villains The Sandman and Paste Pot Pete who were escaping the authorities by plane. When the three began to talk, they realized they all were defeated by the Human Torch, a member of the superhero team the Fantastic Four and decided to get revenge on him by defeating him and his team as an opposite number to the Fantastic Four: the Frightful Four.

However, deciding to really be comparable to the Fantastic Four, they needed a fourth member and having heard rumours of a strange woman living on a remote island in the Mediterranean, they traveled there in the hopes of recruiting her.
