Gleek is a blue "Exxorian Space Monkey" and the pet of Zan and Jayna in the animated TV series Super Friends. Like the Wonder Twins, he comes from the planet Exxor and is a member of the Super Friends.  Recently, Gleek has been added to the DC Universe in the comic book series The Wonder Twins.

Gleek is voiced by Michael Bell.

Origin[edit | edit source]

No origin has ever been revealed for how Gleek joined the Wonder Twins or the Super Friends.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Not much is known about Gleek's past, before becoming a member of the Super Friends. It can be assumed that he had joined with the Wonder Twins before he joined with the Super Friends and became a member when they did. What is known is that he joined the Super Friends and had a long tenure as a beloved member, joining after the exit of Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog.

When the Exxorian Space Monkeys tried to conquer the Earth, they brainwashed Gleek in order to help them. He was able to overcome the brainwashing in order to help the Super Friends defeat the aliens.

Gleek and the Wonder Twins later appeared in a series of short web cartoons called The New Adventures of the Wonder Twins in which their incompetence accidentally gets in the way of their crime-fighting.

DC Universe[edit | edit source]

  • Recently a version of Gleek appeared in the DC Comics Universe.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Gleek is a creature who tries to be helpful but often gets into trouble through his mischievousness or clumsiness. He is also ever-loyal, always ready to pick up Zan in water form with a bucket of water. Other Exxorian Space Monkeys have been shown on the series, though they are capable of speech and are interested in conquest, making it unclear what makes them (or Gleek) different and why he behaves much more like an animal by comparison.

Powers[edit | edit source]

Space Monkey Physiology - Gleek has all the powers and abilities of an Earth monkey, most notably agility.

Elasticity - He has a stretchable, prehensile tail which can be quite useful and can expand to constrict a full grown human.

Skills and Abilities[edit | edit source]

He has also considerably more intelligence than Earth monkeys. He clearly understands spoken English, though does not speak it. He communicates through the use of sign language, pantomime, and chattering in an unintellingible alien tongue. It is later shown that other members of his race are capable of speech, so it is unclear is Gleek simply doesn't know how or is for some reason unable to.

Aviation - In the episode "The Superfriends meet Frankenstein", he is shown both building and piloting a small personal aircraft.

Paraphernalia[edit | edit source]

Gleek is often seen using a bucket to transport Zan around when he transforms himself into water.
