The Golden Age (or Golden Age of Comic Books) is an era of comic books between the late 30's and mid-50's and though it is not exclusive to superhero fiction, it is important to it.
History and Connections with Superhero Fiction[]
Though comics had become increasingly popular in the early 20th century, originally in newspapers in magazines and then in their own periodicals soon referred to as comic books, many believe that the comic book Action Comics #1 (released in 1938) is what began the "Golden Age"-era of comic books. The popularity of Superman, the superhero introduced in the book, inspired a number of competitors to try to recreate that success, sparking the creation and boom of superhero fiction.
