Goldstar is a superheroine in the DC Universe and is the twin sister to the superhero Booster Gold.

Origin[]

Michelle grew up in future Gotham, in the 25th century. The Carter twins were raised in poverty by a loving, devoted mother and an absent father who abused their mother and got involved in illegal gambling. When their influential father pressured Michael into cheating during college sports, he was eventually caught and imprisoned. Michelle was left to take full responsibility, working multiple shifts to care for their now-ill mother.

Wanting to follow in the footsteps of her brother — a disgraced athlete turned superhero, Booster Gold — Michelle traveled back in time to reunite with him and become a superhero herself: Goldstar.

Michelle Carter first wore the Goldstar suit to rescue Booster Gold from an anti-superhero mob. Though she briefly returned to the 25th century, she ultimately chose to remain in the past and kept the suit, despite having little interest in becoming a hero.

She was believed to have died in an alien attack, but Rip Hunter secretly saved her at the last moment. Since she was already displaced from the timeline, her survival didn’t cause any disruptions. After returning, she joined Booster in his time-travel missions.

Michelle later discovered that her death had been a fixed point in time. Disturbed by this revelation and feeling manipulated, she cut ties with Rip and Booster, disabling Skeets and vanishing into the time stream. Her trauma deepened after an encounter with Rex Hunter, who forced her to relive her supposed fate.

Her suit, later revealed to have been enhanced by Rip, allowed her to fire magnetic energy blasts. Still haunted by the idea that she wasn’t meant to exist, Michelle continued to isolate herself.

Eventually, she was found in Coast City just before its destruction. Booster managed to bring her back, though her boyfriend Drew was left behind, as he was destined to die there. After some time, Michelle forgave Booster and returned to help protect the timeline.

Trivia[]

  • Like her brother, Michelle tends to have bad luck in love. Her boyfriend, Drew, was killed in an alternate timeline. Even after preventing his death, his memories of her were erased.
  • Michelle has pulled a few time-traveling pranks. She was once painted by Leonardo da Vinci, briefly stole Barbara Gordon's Batgirl costume and took up the mantle, and even traveled to the era when the Eiffel Tower was still being built.
  • Although Michelle never actually met Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, fans often pair them together as a romantic "ship."
  • Michelle is the younger twin—although she often acts much more mature than he does.
  • Michelle's hair color tends to vary, ranging from a light blonde like her brother's to a strawberry blonde or reddish tone.
  • On Earth-Prime, it's implied that Michelle also enjoyed American football and was a cheerleader at some point.
    • The name Goldstar was originally the alias her brother, Michael, intended to use for himself.
