Guy Gardner is a superhero in the DC Universe and a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Origin[]

When Abin Sur came to Earth, his ring detected two possible replacements: Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. Hal became the successor, but when he discovered it could have been Guy, the two met and Guy was given the status as a "back up" Lantern, before becoming a Lantern himself.

Biography[]

Guy Gardner was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Peggy and Roland Gardner. His father was an alcoholic who abused Guy. He always tried to make his father proud but his father always preferred his brother Mace. Realizing that he would never make his father proud, he became a criminal at a young age, constantly in and out of juvenile hall. Mace became a cop and when Guy got into trouble for stealing a car, Mace beat him up and convinced him to give up his criminal behaviour. Guy did just that, going to school, working through his anger in undergraduate football and getting a job to pay his way through college. Mace was shot and left a paraplegic and later was revealed to be a dirty cop, much to his brother's shock. As a result, Mace lost hope and committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

Guy went onto university, becoming a liberal arts major and getting degrees in psychology and education
