Kyle Rayner is a prominent Green Lantern and was, for a time, the last Green Lantern in the DC Universe.
Origin[]
Kyle Rayner was a graphic artist who was given the final Green Lantern ring by the last guardian so he could become the defender of the universe.
Biography[]

Kyle Rayner as Ion

Kyle as a White Lantern
Not much of his past has been revealed, but Kyle was raised by his mother Maura Rayner and lived a relatively normal childhood in North Hollywood. His father, Aaron, abandoned the family when Kyle was still quite young. Kyle would only learn later his father was in fact a CIA agent named Gabriel Vasquez and that Aaron Rayner was an alias. Kyle became a graphic artist, but was often struggling for success.
Unbeknownst to Kyle at the time, a war was occurring between the Guardians of the Universe and Hal Jordan, the superhero once known as Green Lantern. Hal, possessed by an evil entity, proceeded to kill the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps, the intergalactic organization dedicated to defending the universe. The last surviving Guardian escaped with a Green Lantern Ring and Battery, a powerful artifact powered by the will of the possessor that could create tangible constructs out of green light.
Though it has not been told why he was chosen, he probably at the right place at the right time. The Guardian, dying, appeared before Kyle who was in an alley and gave him the ring and power battery, making him the last Green Lantern. It has never been revealed why Kyle was chosen, though it is possible he may have simply been at the right place at the right time.

Kyle Rayner as Parallax
Kyle, unsure of what to think about having this new power, went to his ex-girlfriend, Alexandra Dewitt, apartment showing her that he now was a Green Lantern. After his first adventure, everyone thought he was Hal Jordan so she recommended that he redesign his costume to look different from Jordan. The new look did not stop Mongul from trying to tear him apart during his first week as a Green Lantern. However, when Mongul came looking for revenge against Green Lantern for his defeat in Engine City, Mongul decided any Green Lantern would do. With some help from Superman, one of his heroes, Kyle defeated Mongul. It took the alien warlord by surprise that Kyle's ring could work against his yellow skin. Superman was shocked when Kyle knew virtually nothing about Hal Jordan or the Green Lantern Corps. Kyle and Alex got back together and she helped Kyle train for his new role as a superhero. Shortly thereafter, she was brutally murdered by the super villain, Major Force, who had been sent to learn the truth about the new Green Lantern after some operatives recovered the final battery. Force made the mistake of showing the battery to Kyle during the fight, allowing Green Lantern to recharge his ring at a crucial moment. Kyle stopped just short of killing Major Force when the authorities arrived.
Kyle was able to briefly wield the power of the Emotional Spectrum as the White Lantern, combining the powers of the rings of the Green Lantern Corps, Red Lantern Corps, Sinestro Corps, Star Sapphire Corps, Blue Lantern Corps, Orange Lantern Corps, and Indigo Tribe.
