The Green Lantern Central Power Battery is the reservoir for the power of the Green Lantern Corps in the DC Universe.
History[]
The Central Power Battery was constructed by the beings known as the Guardians of the Universe after they arrived on their new home, the planet Oa. The Guardians, looking to create an army of protectors, and having failed in previous attempts, decided to harness a power known as the "Green Light of the Emotional Spectrum". At some point, the Guardians encountered a dangerous entity named Parallax, a being connected to the yellow energy of the emotional spectrum, which represented fear. To contain him, they place Parallax in the Central Power Battery, where he was kept in check by the green light of the emotional spectrum. However, it came at the cost that from then on, the rings had a weakness to the color yellow.
At one point in its recent history, the Central Power Battery was destroyed by the villain Krona, while nearly all of the Green Lantern Corps was present. The Lanterns who survived the attack eventually put out the inferno of green energy that was unleashed. The Battery was rebuilt and put back to it's proper use to allowing the Lanterns to re-energize their own batteries and rings. However, this event occurred around the same time as the intended execution of the former Green Lantern and villain Sinestro, who end up trapped in the Battery.
