The Hulk is a superhero/antihero in the Marvel Universe, known for both his super strength and his seemingly unstoppable rages.

Origin[]

When scientist Bruce Banner was testing a bomb he developed for the military, he discovered a young man, Rick Jones, on the testing site, oblivious to the threat of the bomb. Bruce went out to help him got him to safety but was bombarded with the bomb's unique gamma radiation. Afterward, Bruce discovers whenever he is mad, scared, or under some similar form of stress, he becomes a strong man. The monster, called the Hulk, simply wants to be left alone and lashes out at anyone he perceives as an enemy, but is also heroic, willing to fight for those he cares about.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Robert Bruce Banner was born the son of atomic scientist Dr. Brian Banner and Rebecca Banner in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Brian Banner was a renown atomic researcher, but also was an abusive alcoholic. Brian had also become convinced that, when he was still in the womb, that his exposure to radiation would give birth to an abomination. When Bruce was born, both he and the mother nearly died but were saved by a caesarian section (though Brian tried to prevent it. Though Rebecca loved Bruce, Brian attempted to drive the two apart by taking his wife on many social outings and leaving the young child with an abusive nanny. Both her and Brian's abuse left Bruce feeling unloved by his parents.

Bruce also shown signs of great intelligence for his age, which spurred further delusional feelings of jealousy and fear from his father, who continued to leave him in isolation. In response, young Bruce found he only had himself to rely on. He did, however, meet his cousin Jennifer Walters, who he became close with. As Bruce got older, Brian became physically abusive with him. Fed up with the abuse, Rebecca eventually decided to leave but was caught by Brian before they could get away. Angered, Brian beat Rebecca to death in their driveway, which left Bruce traumatized and resulted in him repressing his emotions. Brian was arrested but the day before the trial young Bruce was coerced into testifying Rebecca's death was an accident. Brian was originally exonerated, but he was shortly overhead gloating and bullying his son while revealing the truth, resulting in him being found guilty by reason of insanity and was placed in a mental asylum.

Bruce was raised by his aunt Susan Drake, but while Susan attempted to give him a normal life, the trauma had affected Bruce who had become more withdrawn. The stress and trauma resulted in Bruce developing a voice in his head that encouraged his destructive impulses that Bruce called the Hulk. At one point the Hulk persona took Bruce over while asleep and Bruce completed a bomb and planted it within the school with the intent of destroying it. Bruce was able to stop the bomb and while the incident forced Bruce and Susan to leave town and Susan was later approached by people from the U.S. Government who noted that with the proper education, Bruce would be a talented weapons designer and decided to invest in his education.

University[]

After graduation, Bruce studied in Desert State University in Nevada, briefly in Harvard and then went to Pennsylvania State University, where he excelled. There he met Walter Langkowski and Peter Corbeau, who were would also become notable scientists in the superhero community. Banner, inspired by the habits of his hero Albert Einstein, decided to fill his wardrobe exclusively with identical suits, all purple.

During the experimental detonation of a gamma bomb, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner rushes to save teenager Rick Jones, who has driven onto the testing field on dare. Banner pushes Jones into the safety trench to save him, but is himself caught in the blast. Absorbing massive amounts of gamma radiation, he awakens later in an infirmary, seeming relatively unscathed. But that night, Banner begins to feel sick. Things get worse when the scientist transforms into a lumbering, grey giant that breaks through the compound wall and escapes. A soldier in the ensuing search party dubs the otherwise unidentified creature a "hulk". The original incarnation of Banner transformed into the Hulk at sunset and reverted at sunrise. Banner was cured, but chose to restore Hulk's powers with Banner's intelligence. The gamma-ray machine needed to affect the transformation-induced side effects that made Banner temporarily sick and weak when returned to his normal state. But after using the machine to much he began changing to Banner and Hulk and vice versa. Then after S.H.I.E.L.D. began they started hunting Hulk and captured him bunch of times but escaped. Then when Graviton escaped The Cube, The Avengers (before they were a team) tried to stop him but at the end Hulk defeated him. And S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to capture him but Iron Man and Wasp intervened. Later, Loki tricked Hulk into attacking a train track, forcing Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Thor to go after him. However, Thor discovered Loki was behind the attack, and the heroes, alongside Hulk, defeated Loki, and thus, the Avengers were born. Due to an internal conflict, Hulk left the Avengers, who was immediately replaced by Captain America after being thawed out of his icy prison. ]

The Hulk has appeared in movies like The Incredible Hulk (2006), Avengers (2013), and will possibly appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The green skinned goliath has also appeared in many TV series, such as Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H, Avengers Assemble, and The Incredible Hulk: The Animated Series.
The Hulk has been in multiple video games, like the movie video game from 2008, Marvel Heroes, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and more.

Powers[]

The Hulk's powers include a seemingly unlimited strength factor which increases as he gets angrier, incredible durability and regeneration, an ability to eat anything, powerful leg muscles which allow him to leap a mile, incredible endurance, and the ability to slam his hands together to produce a sonic wave, which has been given the name Thunderclap.

Gray Hulk[]

Originally the Hulk appeared as a gray character who was smarter: the gray Hulk appeared in the cartoon The Incredible Hulk when someone tried to end the powers of the Hulk and leave Bruce Banner helpless, then the cartoon Super Hero Squad Show and Iron man: Armored Adventures, invented episodes in which incidents made the Hulk gray and smart, the comics put an incident in which the Hulk gained another personality that is a personification of the teenage Bruce Banner, was gray and the incident involved Hulk ending up in a casino in Las Vegas and lied to the characters that his name was Joe Fixit. In these old comics, he wore gangster-like clothes and used the name Joe Fixit or Mr Fixit, in reference to this in an episode of Ultimate Spider Man, when Spider man met a universe of gangsters based on the "Marvel Noir" universe, Mr Fixit was the Hulk of that world. When Marvel comics gained the plot of the Hulk turning into a gray Hulk for a while not all of Bruce Banner's clothes had been destroyed during the transformation so he was better dressed too.
