Ion is a powerful, benevolent entity in the DC Universe that is the driving force behind the green light energy of the Green Lanterns.

Origin[]

Ion was an entity that lived in the Central Power Battery of Oa until it was unintentionally freed by Hal Jordan (possessed by Parallax).  After, it became one with key Green Lanterns to help save the universe from evil.

Biography[]

Ion is a creature of pure willpower that was birthed from the power of the emotional spectrum, an energy spectrum of colours that contains pure emotion.  When the Guardians of the Universe created the Green Lantern, an artifact of immense power shared by all members of the Green Lantern Corps, a sort of intergalactic police force, they tapped into the same power that made up Ion.  When they imprisoned a fear entity named Parallax, they imprisoned him in their Central Power Battery, an artifact where Green Lantern Corps can recharge the energy for their Green Lanterns, along with Ion in order to keep Parallax in check.

Countless millenia later, the Central Power Battery was destroyed, letting both Parallax and Ion go free.  For a time, Ion wandered aimlessly throughout the universe, only to be drawn to the Green Lantern of Kyle Rayner, at that time the only surviving Green Lantern. The two fused and Rayner found that he could generate Green Lantern energy without using his ring and power battery.
