LGBT+ in superhero fiction

LGBT (or GLBT) is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender with variations including LGBTQ  LGBTI, LGBTIQ and LGBT+ to represent intersex, queer and with the plus side encompassing the spectrum of sexuality and gender.  Within superhero fiction, LGBT+ representation is relatively new as earlier superhero stories (particularly within mainstream media) often omitted such themes.
