Latveria is a fictional nation ruled by Dr. Doom in Eastern Europe in the Marvel Universe. This nation was created by an annex from Hungary, and possibly Serbia, centuries before Victor Von Doom took over in his "forced Monarchy."
History
Details about Latveria's older history is a bit murky, though it is known that Latveria was once sections of southern Hungary (and possibly sections of Serbia and Romania) before being annexed.
In its recent history it was a monarchy under King Vladimir Vassily Gonereo Trstian Mangegi Fortunov, Baron of Sabbat, Baron of Haasen, Baron of Krozi. The King (who was viewed by many as a tyrant) unknowningly set in motion events that would lead to his own downfall by ordering the death of Werner von Doom, the father of Victor von Doom, the nation's current ruler. Years later, Victor von Doom returned and used his mastery of science, magic, and strategy to conquer the nation, murder Vladimir and imprison Vladimir's son Rudolfo.
When Doom finished his conquest of the nation, he was celebrated by the nation's majority for outing the previous tyrant and worked hard to improve the nation on all fronts and greatly improve the quality of life for his people. He would go on to rename the nation's capital Doomstadt and ruled from his base in Castle Doom.
From then on, Doom would attempt world domination many times, using many strategies to gain power for himself.
