Lockjaw is a superheroic dog in the Marvel Universe and is one of the Inhumans.

Origin[edit | edit source]

Born in Attilan, Lockjaw is a bulldog like being and animal Inhuman who acts as escort and protector of the Inhuman royal family.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Lockjaw was born in the secret city of Attilan, a home to the beings known as Inhumans, who are humanoid entities born with the potential for great power.  The Inhumans themselves were the creation on genetic engineering by the aliens known as the Kree long ago, resulting in a society focused on genetic technology, and this eventually resulted in genetic experimentation on canines.  One such canine emerged with with an increased size and the ability to teleport.  His siblings were thought to be dead, but in fact had also teleported to different places across the Earth (and in one case, another universe), a fact that would only be learned much later.

The dog, named Lockjaw became an escort of the Inhuman Royal Family, using his teleportation abilities to take them where they wanted.  Lockjaw also became a staunch ally of the family, such as helping Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans, in defeating a dangerous energy creature known as the Trikon.  However, during this time, Black Bolt's mad brother Maximus, who created Trikon, used the situation to take hold of the Inhuman royal throne and force Black Bolt and his loyalest comrades and family into exile.

The battle with Trikon also resulted in the disappearance of the Inhuman Medusa, so Black Bolt's first decision was to find her with Lockjaw's help.  Eventually, Black Bolt and Lockjaw tracked down Medusa to New York City, where she had become a recurring enemy of the Fantastic Four as part of the supervillain team the Frightful Four.
