Madame Web (Julia Carpenter) is a powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe. Before gaining the powers of Madame Web, she was formerly known as Spider-Woman and later, Arachne.

Origin[]

Julia Carpenter was secretly given a concoction using exotic plants and spider venom by The Commission, a secret government group trying to create super-powered people. Julia developed spider-like powers and fought crime as Spider-Woman.

History[]

Spider-Woman Julia

Julia Carpenter as Spider-Woman

Julia Carpenter was just a single mother who was struggling to make ends meet until her friend, Valerie Cooper convinced her to join a "health study" to make some extra money. The health study was in fact a secret experiment to create new government-controlled superheroes. Julia was secretly injected with a mix of spider-venoms and plant toxins and when she developed spider-like psychic powers, she was convinced to become the second Spider-Woman.

Arachne

Julia as Arachne

When the original Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, returned, Julia changed her name to Arachne.

When the family of Kraven the Hunter killed Cassandra Webb, the original Madame Web, she passed her powers to Julia and she became the new Madame Web.

Powers[]

Madame Web has the proportionate physical powers of a spider, which give her superhuman strength, speed, and agility. She has heightened senses of touch and hearing.

Madame Web has the power to create webs by psychokinetically binding free-floating molecules into strands of solid force. She can climb walls by using her psychokinetic energies to bind her fingertips to walls.

After receiving the powers of Cassandra Webb, Madame Web gained clairvoyance, the ability to see things outside of her field of vision using psychic perceptions, and precognition, the power to see the future. Madame Web also gained the power of astral projection, the power to project her soul outside of her body.

TV Shows[]

Julia has appeared as Spider-Woman in Iron Man the Animated series and as Madame Web in Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man.
