Biography[]
Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina was born in a farm collective called the Ust-Ordynsky Collective to Nikolai and Alexandra Rasputin and was raised with her siblings Poitr and Mikhail. All three siblings would eventually learn that they are mutants, each with fantastical superpowers and Illyana discovering her psionic powers. Her brother Poitr gained the ability to transform his skin into an organic metal that augments his strength and durability and used this power to help around the farm. Poitr saved her from a tractor on the same day he was recruited by mutant rights activist Professor X for his team of heroes, the X-Men and Illyana remained on the farm while her brother moved to America.
Later, some of the X-Men's loved ones were kidnapped by the villain Miss Locke, including Illyana, in order to coerce the team into saving her master, the assassin Arcade, from the supervillain Doctor Doom. After managing to free Illyana, Colossus recommended having her stay in America with him, for fear she needed protection from being used by her government like her brother Mikhail.
