Menthor is a superhero in the comic series T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and has a split personality: one a hero and the other a villain.

Origin[]

When an evil double agent named John Janus tried on an experimental helmet, he gave himself vast mental powers, but also created a second personality with a heroic streak named Menthor.

Biography[]

John Janus' past is largely unknown.  At some point, he became a willing agent of the villain known as Warlord and his organization S.P.I.D.E.R.   At age 28, he was sent by Warlord to infiltrate T.H.U.N.D.E.R., a secret organization that opposed S.P.I.D.E.R. by joining them as a double agent.  S.P.I.D.E.R. provided Janus with a special helmet that gave him mental powers which he used to spy on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. However, the helmet had an unexpected side effect on his mind, giving him a second personality.

From then on, he would pass on information to S.P.I.D.E.R. but whenever the innocent where threatened, his second personality would emerge, developing the superhero identity of Menthor. Janus seemed completely unaware that he was in fact being stymied by a second personality while Menthor used the situation to help others.
