The Modern Age of Comic Books (also called the Dark Age of Comic Books) is an era in comic fiction between the year 1985 to the present.

The Beginning[]

Though 1985 is largely considered to be the beginning of the Modern Age of Comic Books, it is often debated as many defining developments of the era also overlap with the late Bronze Age of Comic Books, such as the increase in popularity of darker themes and character development beyond black and white morals. The late 70s and early 80s works of noted creators in superhero fiction such as John Byrne, Chris Claremont and Frank Miller whose work would symbolize the aforementioned sea change in the medium in American comics.
