Mondo Gecko was once a normal gecko who was in the sewers and was exposed to the same mutagen that transformed four turtles into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Mondo Gecko was soon found and picked up by the mysterious criminal known only as Mr. X, who raised him to become his own personal thief.  Years later, the Ninja Turtle Michaelangelo had dreams where he remembered the existence of Mondo and decides to investigate.  When he met Mondo Gecko, he learned he was being used by Mr. X and convinced him to turn on his criminal father figure and fight for good.

Later, the Turtles recruited the help of Mondo when mutants all over New York City where being hunted by a man named Dirk Savage.  Together they were able to defeat Dirk and free the mutants from captivity.

2012 series[]

Jason's parentage and youth is largely unrevealed.  What is known is that he was a teenager who loved skateboarding and was even able to make his own halfpipe.  Through an unfortunate coincident, a cannister of mutagen fell from a passing spaceship onto his head and broke, spilling all over him.  He mutated into a four foot tall gecko-human and was kicked out of his house by his parents.  Living on the street, he eventually fell in with a criminal named Fishface, who was also a mutant.  After his boss was attacked by vigilante Casey Jones and mutated ninja turtle Michelangelo, Mondo realized that Fishface was a terrible boss and learned the value of friendship.

Eventually, he ended up joining the team of mutant heroes, the Mighty Mutanimals. Together, the Mutanimals and the Turtles battled the alien Triceraton army to prevent Earth from being destroyed by a black hole. On another adventure, Mondo and Donatello had to work together to help bring down Don Vizioso's mob, who were employing anti-mutant weaponry.

He was first found as a member of the army of Old Hobb, a mutant gathering an army in order to protect mutants from humans.
