Dani Moonstar is a superheroine in the Marvel Universe and a member of the New Mutants.

Ostracized because of her powers, Dani Moonstar was recruited by Professor Xavier to join his team of young mutants to help spread his message of tolerance and acceptance to the world.

A Native American member of the Cheyenne Nation and the daughter of William and Peg Lonestar, Danielle Moonstar grew up on a ranch in Boulder, Colorado and developed psychic powers at puberty that created manifestations of the greatest fears of people around her. This ostracized her from the rest of her community save for her parents and Black Eagle, her grandfather who was also her tribe's chief and shaman.

One day Dani's parents mysteriously disappeared while on a trip to the mountains and she was soon plagued by horrific nightmares about a "Demon Bear" that she believed was connected to her missing parents. In fact, her parents were transformed into the Demon Bear (based on a symbol of death from Dani's mind by an unknown force. Danielle was then taken in by the family named the Roberts for a time, even becoming close to her adopted brother Pat. After that, she fled to the mountains and was taken care of by Black Eagle, who became her guardian and protected her from a force that intended to turn her into a demonic entity like her parents.

Black Eagle, worried for his daughter, sent a letter to Professor Charles Xavier, a teacher and expert on mutants whom he hoped would help Dani learn to control her powers. Xavier and Black Eagle knew each other through William when both of them were in the army. William and Charles had even become blood brothers and close friends. Charles arrived to help Black Eagle convince her to join the school, which she refused due to her mistrust of white people but after Black Eagle ordered her to go, she reluctantly obeyed. However, some time before Xavier arrived to pick her up, Black Eagle was targeted and killed by agents of Donald Pierce, a member of the Inner Circle of the organization The Hellfire Club. When Moonstar learned her grandfather was killed, she vowed vengeance on his killer, deciding to team up with Xavier to do so.

The New Mutants[]

Moonstar joined a group of young mutants and together with Professor Xavier, they were able to defeat Pierce. Xavier then continued to train these young mutants to use their powers as he did with his X-Men, naming the team The New Mutants.  Due to the nature of her psychic powers, Moonstar took on the codename Mirage.  Though she initially mistrusted her teammates, as she did Caucasians in general, she soon grew close to them and considered them her friends.  In particular, she became very close friends with teammate Rahne Sinclair, AKA Wolfsbane who had the abilitiy to transform into a wolf.

Appears in X-Men Evolution and New Mutants movie.
