Photon (Monica Rambeau) is a superhero in the Marvel Universe and the second Captain Marvel.
History[]
Monica as Captain Marvel
When New Orleans Harbor Patrol lieutenant Monica Rambeau was asked to investigate an offshore oil rig, she never expected to see an alien weapon. When she learned the weapon was designed to destroy a military base, Monica tried to destroy the weapon. However the device irradiated her with extraterrestrial energy and transformed her into a being of living electromagnetic radiation. Monica fled back to the mainland and found that she could turn back to human. Realizing that she could become any wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum at will, she fashioned a costume out of old Mardi Gras costumes and flew back to the oil rig. Monica destroyed the weapon and was dubbed Captain Marvel by the media. As Captain Marvel, Monica became a member of the Avengers.
Monica as Spectrum
When the son of original Captain Marvel confronted Monica over the use of the Captain Marvel name, she changed her codename to Photon.
Powers[]
Photon has the power to transform herself into an energy being comprised of any wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum (such as visible light, infrared radiation, x-rays, etc). In her energy form she can fly at the speed of light, phase through solid matter, or fire blasts of whatever energy she has chosen to become.
