Ra's Al Ghul is a villain in the DC Universe and is primarily a foe of Batman.

Origin

A brilliant scientist, the man who would become Ra's al Ghul studied the Lazarus Pit, a location that allowed people to ressurect themselves.  The scientist eventually lost faith in humanity and vowed to create a new better world at any cost.  After over 600 year, the man renamed himself Ra's al Ghul and continues a mad crusade against the world.

Biography

The man who would become Ra's al Ghul (real name unknown) was born over 600 years ago in an Arabian desert tribe of nomads.  At a young age, he developed an intense curiosity in science that his tribe were not prepared to help satisfy. This caused him to leave his tribe and move to the city where through his education he became physician and married a woman named Sora.

Ra's came to discover the Lazarus Pit, a naturally occurring spring with strange properties to resurrect the dead. There, he saw a Prince who had recently died come back to life at the cost of his humanity, making him even more sadistic and cruel. The prince murdered Sora and the prince's father, unwilling to let people know his son committed the crime, blamed it on Ra's. Ra's was sentenced as guilty and was tortured in a cage with the Sora's corpse, until set free by a the son of an elderly blind woman whom Ra's eased the suffering of as a physician.
