Saitama is a superhero and the protagonist of the manga and anime series One-Punch Man.

Origin[]

Saitama was a man who wanted to be a superhero as a hobby and exercised daily with a hellish routine. The training he put himself through each day was so intense that he risked exhausting himself literally to death, and eventually it caused his hair to fall out. However, he kept following the same routine every single day, and after three long years of hellish training he reached the point where he could jump miles high, run faster than a bullet train, and smash small mountains and cliffsides with one simple punch. Though this is how he insists it's how he got as strong as he is now, whether it's true or not is still up for debate.

Biography[]

The early life of Saitama, including his family and his full name, remain unknown save that he watched superhero shows as a child and wanted to be one.  It is known that early in his youth he was a middle school student in Z-City, which has had problems with supervillains and mysterious monsters in the decade previous.  One such incident involve Saitama himself, who was bullied for what little money he owned and fought and failed against the bully. Saitama later found the bully attacked by a monster who wanted his money and Saitama learned that the bully had been stealing to pay for his brother's lunches. Saitama tried to fight the monster, only to be defeated, with the monster later beaten by the police.

Saitama was an average young man who admired superheroes and wanted to become one, in his own words, "for fun." At one point, despite having seemingly no powers, he fought against a monster to save a child, an act of bravery and selflessness that surprised him most of all. Saitama manages to barely win the fight with quick thinking but he has an epiphany that being a superhero would be fun, as he imagined being as a child.

To this end, he began strenuous physical training to give him a strength enough to fight crime as a hero.
