The Secret Warriors are a superhero team formed by Nick Fury, made up of "off-the-grid" super-powered characters in the Marvel Universe.

Origin[edit | edit source]

When the Earth was being invaded by alien shapeshifters, Nick Fury, believing that his closest friends and allies could not be trusted, recruited super-powered individuals who had little to no connection to the superhero community that he knew he could trust to fight threats against the Earth.

History[edit | edit source]

Formation[edit | edit source]

When Nick Fury discovered the secret dual threats of the Skrull invasion and HYDRA's conspiracies that put it in places in power, Fury (currently on the run after an illegal attack on Latveria) decided to use his remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. resources to form a new team to fight those secret threats. Believing his most trusted allies may be comprised, Fury instead decided to start up a team made of obscure superpowered figures whose existence was largely unknown to most of the major players. His team included a superpowered former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Daisy Johnson (AKA Quake), the 10-year old son of Ares named Alex (AKA Phobos), the daughter of the supervillain Griffin "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, J.T. Slade (AKA Hellfire), who was a mystical mercenary and the grandson of the Phantom Rider, Sebastian Druid (the son of the superhero Dr. Druid) and Jerry Sledge (AKA Stonewall), the son of the Absorbing Man. He also created two other teams to help, though it is only the Secret Warriors who worked directly under him.

There was also an attempt to recruit a young, powerful mutant named Layla Miller, but she used her powers to reveal that even without her, they "wouldn't fail" and was needed by the now dwindling mutant community.

The Secret Invasion[edit | edit source]

When the Skrull invasion was revealed, Fury and his team (which he referred to as his Howlin' Commandos, in reference to his previous team) made their first appearance, saving the Young Avengers and the cadets of the Initiative from the Skrulls in Time Square. The team helped turn the tides during the battle against the Skrulls in Time Square, but this also caused Nick Fury to reveal himself publicly for the first time since his disappearance. The Secret Warriors retreated, taking the heroes they saved with them, but later re-emerged for the final stand against the Skrulls alongside Marvel's greatest heroes (and even some of its villains). The united heroes defeated the Skrulls and with their mission complete, the Secret Warriors went back into hiding.

The War Against HYDRA[edit | edit source]

At this time, Fury revealed to the team their true purpose: S.H.I.E.L.D. had infiltrated and manipulated S.H.I.E.L.D. since its inception and the Warriors job was to defeat HYDRA and purge them from S.H.I.E.L.D.  During their plans, the youngest member, Phobos, revealed that he could see the future and could see vague outcomes for all of them, most worryingly that member Hellfire was fated to die. The team proceeds to attack HYDRA, which leads then to battling Gorgon, the former leader of HYDRA's sister organization, The Hand
