Ethan "Sharkboy" Morris is a superhero who first appeared in the family film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D.

Sharkboy is played by Taylor Lautner in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D and J.J. Dashnaw in We Can Be Heroes.

Origin

After losing his father at sea, Sharkboy was raised by sharks and learned to swim, fight and even bite like a shark.

Biography

It is known that his father was a marine biologist who called his son Sharkboy (it is unclear if this is a birth name or a term of endearment) and that Sharkboy too wanted to be a marine biologist. They both studied in a floating laboratory until the day that it was destroyed by a waterspout. Both Sharkboy and his father survived but were in different life rafts separating them. The now-orphaned Sharkboy was discovered by a school of sharks, who took him as one of their own. They taught him to swim, breath in water, and how to bite through most anything. Some writers theorize that the father and Sharkboy had never separated, and in fact his father was one of the sharks. It is speculated that the chemicals in the laboratory affected his father and transformed him into a shark. Sharkboy soon becomes a superhero who befriends the superheroine Lavagirl and a boy named Max. Together they were defenders of a bizarre world called The Planet Drool.

However, Sharkboy, Lavagirl, and Planet Drool itself only exist inside the imagination of Max. Max is constantly bullied at his school but another boy named Linus, who also steals Max's dream journal, where all his ideas and dreams are collected, then vandalizes it. When Max attempted to get revenge, he is interrupted by Sharkboy and Lavagirl, who miraculously appeared out of small tornadoes. They told Max that he was needed on the Planet Drool, where the planet's electrician, Mr. Electric, went mad and began causing trouble.

The three travelled together to Drool, only to be dropped of into the Dream Graveyard, a place where Max's incompleted and forgotten dreams lay. Together, the three escaped and ended up bonding over their trials and tribulations. They realized the next step in their journey was to find a woman named the Ice Princess, which would allow them to freeze time and allow them to complete the next stage of their plan. But they were soon captured by Mr. Electric and were introduced to Minus, a dream version of Linus, who tainted and corrupted Max's dreams with Max's own dream journal. The three were able to escape when Sharkboy is able to go into a frenzy and used his powers to bite his way out of their cage.

After escaping, Max retrieved his dream journal, telling Sharkboy that his father was still alive in the journal.  However, after Lavagirl accidentally destroyed it with their powers, the trio seek to find the crystal heart, which they believe can save Drool.  While Max met with the Crystal Guardian, Sharkboy and Lavagirl had a run in with Mr. Electric that seemed to turn lethal.  However, around that time, Max was inspired to dream in more hopeful and unselfish ways, which revived Sharkboy who, in turn, took Lavagirl to a nearby volcano to revive her. Sharkboy and Lavagirl had a moment by the volcano where Sharkboy came out to her as bisexual. While lavagirl is lesbian, she was to nervous of what would happen if she came to Sharkboy in that moment. This moment strengthened their bond.

Max was able to defeat Minus and reached out to him in friendship.  Max then tried to recreate the dream world but Mr. Electric did not want to change and try to travel to Earth and kill Max while he was still asleep.

In Netflix's We Can Be Heroes he is the father of Guppy.
