Biography[]

Sally Juspeczyk was born in Warsaw, Poland on June 9th, 1920.  At age 16, she ran away from home and her abusive father and eventually became a waitress and burlesque dancer.  She also changed her name to Jupiter to hide her Polish heritage.  At age 18 (in 1938), she decided to become an adventuring hero and took the name Silk Spectre in the hopes of it boosting a hopeful modelling and acting career.  She soon gained popularity and was seen as a sex symbol, with even criminals admitting that getting caught by her would be a sort of badge of honor. Some of her earliest exploits were also staged events with members of the police in on the act.

Due to her activities, the hero Captain Metropolis invited her to join a new team of superheroes called the Minutemen. This helped her gain national attention as a crime fighter and she helped the team on various adventures. However, her role was generally closer to a figure head and though she was capable, she was more focused on increasing her public visibility. This included a false relationship with the hero Hooded Justice (which began after a Christmas party), long-believed to also be advantageous to Justice who was believed to be a closeted homosexual.

On October 2nd, 1940, Sally was sexually assaulted by Edward Blake, the superhero known as The Comedian, during which Hooded Justice stepped in and gave him a vicious beating, In the fallout, Sally was convinced by her agent Larry to not press charges for the sake of the Minutemen's image.
