Thaal Sinestro (usually simply referred to as Sinestro) is an alien supervillian (and sometimes superhero) in the DC Universe. A former Lantern for the Green Lantern Corps, Sinetro was considered one of the greatest Lanterns to ever grace the Corps. The mentor of Hal Jordan, Sinestro turned against the Corps when he was persecuted for conquering the planet Koruger and ruling as a dictator. Wanting to instill fear upon the planet rather than fight it, he forged a yellow power ring (the power of fear). Since then, he has become the ultimate enemy of the Green Lantern Corps.

Origins[]

Sinestro Ultraviolet

Sinestro as an Ultraviolet Lantern

An anthropologist from Planet Korugar who becomes a Green Lantern, Thaal Sinestro was considered the greatest Green Lantern of all, until it was revealed that he maintained peace in his sector of space through rule with an iron fist. Sinestro was soon ejected and vowed revenge, using a special yellow ring to achieve his goals.

Biography[]

Parallax Sinestro

Sinestro as Parallax

Not much has been revealed of Sinestro's youth. Thaal Sinestro was once an anthropologist from the planet Korugar who was born with a focus on order, best represented by his ability to adeptly reconstruct the ruins of lost civilizations. During a reconstruction, Sinestro came across the dying Lantern, Prohl Gosgotha, who gave Sinestro the ring so that he may defeat Prohl's persuer, a Weaponer of Qward. Sinestro did so (sacrificing a reconstruction that he spent his life on), but once he did, he let Prohl die by not giving him the ring, becoming the next Green Lantern of his sector.

Soon, Sinestro became a respected member of the Corps and his ability to keep order in his sector earned him the title of the greatest Green Lantern. Neither the Guardians of the Universe, or the other Corps members realized that Sinestro ruled his sector like a tyrant in order to maintain order, having conquered his homeworld shortly after joining the Corps.

TV Shows[]

The programs that used his original storyline as a green lantern that got corrupted and got a yellow version of the ring were: Super Friends, Legends Of The Super Heroes, Superman: Animated Series, Justice League and The Batman. The programs that only use the part of him being a green lantern that went bad were: Batman The Brave and the Bold and Green Lantern The Animated Series. And the plots that put that together with the ring he got a yellow version of the green lantern uniform were: Green Lantern Movie, Green Lantern First Flight and Justice League Action.
