Spider-Girl (Betty Brant) is a superheroine in the Marvel Multiverse who appeared in an issue of the What If? comic book series.

Origin[]

In an alternate dimension, Betty Brant is accidentally bitten by the radioactive spider, thus accidentally taking on the powers that would have created Spider-Man. The story is relayed by Uatu The Watcher.

Biography[]

What If?[]

Though her backstory wasn't heavily delved into, it can be assumed that the past of Betty Brant of this universe is close to or identical to that of the Betty Brant of the Marvel Universe until a certain moment. While attending a demonstration of radioactive rays as J. Jonah Jameson's secretary, Betty Grant was bitten by a spider struck by the device. Peter Parker observed the spider biting Betty, and offered to take out for coffee while she recuperated. After Betty accidentally smashed a table at the cafe, Peter Parker investigated her new abilities. Once tested, Parker developed a device to shoot a web-like substance. Costumed as Spider-Girl, Betty fought crime with Parker taking photos of her exploits and sold them to Jameson's newspaper, The Daily Bugle. Spider-Girl was afraid of hurting someone with her superhuman strength, so she relied heavily on her web-shooters. When she saw a criminal escaping from an official, she found herself out of web fluid and let him get away. After going with Parker to his home, the pair discovered that Peter's uncle had been killed by a thug. Spider-Girl tracked the thug to a warehouse and captured him. Betty threw the costume away, stating she would never don it again to be Spider-Girl.

Spider-Verse[]

Some time later for reasons unrevealed, Betty returned to her identity of Spider-Girl to fight crime.  When a threat emerged called the Inheritors across the multiverse targeting Spider-themed heroes, Spider-Girl was recruited by the superhero Spider-UK to fight.

Powers[]

Spider-Girl has the ability to cling to walls, superhuman strength, a sixth sense ("spider-sense") that alerts her to danger, perfect balance and equilibrium, as well as superhuman speed and agility.

Media[]

In the game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, this character appears in the images of alternative versions of Spider Man that Madame Web showed.

In the mobile game Spider-Man Unlimited, Betty Brant as Spider-Girl is a playable character.
