Biography[edit | edit source]

Pre-History and Beyond[edit | edit source]

Bloodstone (his true birth name is unknown) was born over 10,000 years ago in the Hyborian Age into a nomadic tribe in an area that would later be known as Scandinavia.  He grew to become one of the most accomplished hunters in his tribe, until the day he encountered the entity known as Ulluxy'l Kwan Tae Syn while hunting.  Ulluxy'l showed the hunter an artifact called the bloodstone and offered to share its power with him.  The power of the bloodstone transferred into the hunter, giving him superhuman strength, endurance and reflexes.

Impressed by the power bestowed upon him, the hunter returned to his tribe to tell them how they may too gain the same powers.  He took his entire village to Ulluxy'l's base of operations and surround the gem, but the hunter is shocked when they are all killed by the gem, with their minds being absorbed by it.  Realizing what had happened, the hunter attempted to halt the process and shattered the Bloodstone into many pieces, though he was too late to save his tribe.  The Bloodstone had shattered itself across the planet, except for one piece, which had embedded itself in the hunter's sternum.

The Hunter soon found that the stone embedded in his body made him virtually immortal.  He lived for many millenia, eventually taking on the name Ulysses Bloodstone.  Bloodstone swore revenge on Ulluxy'l and with the knowledge that Ulluxy'l was hunting the stone fragments that were scattered across the planet, Bloodstone began hunting for them too. Ulluxy'l continually tried to kill Ulysses (or at least pre-occupy him from his mission) by sending various extradimensional monsters after him.  Whenever Ulysses was unable to locate Ulluxy'l, he would sharpen his abilities learning new skills and languages and would, at times, go into suspended animation in the hopes that in the future Ulluxy'l might reappear.  Meanwhile, Ulluxy'l sought out fragments of the Bloodstone that he might restore it and gain even greater power.

The 20th Century[edit | edit source]

By the 20th Century, Bloodstone had acquired a fortune through shrewd investments and adventuring while Ulluxy'l managed to acquire all but four of the Bloodstone fragments. Bloodstone managed to create several bases for himself, including Bloodstone Island, his main headquarters in the South Seas and small smaller bases in Moscow, Boston, Harlem and one hidden under Central Park.

1950s[edit | edit source]

In 1956, using the alias "Frank", Bloodstone battled a giant mutated ant named Grotto who planned on conquering the Earth.

In the year 1959, he was recruited with several mercenaries and secret agents into a team called the Avengers (unrelated to the heroic team of the same name in the present day) to take down the Nazi villain The Red Skull and his army, the Fourth Reich.  After a successful mission, the team went their separate ways, though Ulysses invited fellow member Silver Sable to some monster hunting in the prehistoric world known as the Savage Land

1960s[edit | edit source]

Bloodstone followed leads regarding a smoke-like creature called Diablo, that he discovered was a dangerous being from the fifth dimension. Ulysses used his wits and using a simple lighter convinced Diablo that humans could easily extinguish him, forcing him to relent in its plans for global conquest.
